Programs

Many programs are in place to meet the individual needs of students in the Surry County School System.  The following descriptions provide an overview of current programs in place.  The public is invited to explore program descriptions and contact program directors with questions and comments. 

Student Services
The Student Services department provides an array of services needed by students and their families.  Tracking student data, maintaining student records, providing transcripts, assisting with testing and the accountablity program, and seeking ways to improve services for students remains goals for this department. 

Exceptional Children
Special education services are provided at every school in the Surry County School System.   Services are designed to meet the individual need of students with exceptionalities. 

Technology
Providing current technological hardware and software is important to the quality instruction provided for all staff and students in the Surry County School System.  A five year technology plan outlines goals and objectives for replacing equipment and updating software, as well as staying on the cutting edge of the many technologies available to enhance the learning process.  This plan is reviewed annually.

Child Nutrition
The Child Nutrition program provides healthy meals to all students.  Choices are aligned with the school system's wellness policy. 

Federal Programs
Federal programs provide additional funds and services for all students.  Programs include Title I, Title II, Title III, Title V, Section 504, and Migrant Education. 

Transportation
The Surry County School System provides transportation to all students residing in Surry County.  Services include Mount Airy and Elkin students as well as providing transportation for students with special needs.

Career and Technical Education
Programs in Career and Technical Education are designed to contribute to the broad educational achievement of students, including basic skills such as reading, writing and mathematics as well as their ability to work independently and as part of a team, think creatively and solve problems and utilize technology. Surry County Schools offer Career and Technical Education programs in 8 areas.
