Activities at Rockford

  • The following are activities in which students at Rockford Elementary participate:

    • Battle of the Books - 4th & 5th Grade students read 17-18 novels chosen by The American Library Association.  They then compete with the surrounding 10 elementary schools in a head to head questioning competition.

    • Box Tops for Education - Parents and students are asked to collect box tops throughout the year to send to school during our box top blitz weeks.  The school then earns 10 cents for every box top collected.

    • Can Food Drive - Friends Feeding Friends -  Parents and students collect can food during the Holiday season to be given to families in need.  School rewards are given to the classes collecting the most.

    • Chorus - 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students are able to try out for a school chorus that performs at all PTO programs and special school or county functions.

    • Gator Awards End of year to recognize Honor Roll & Perfect Attendance - Parents are invited to attend our award program where students receive academic and character awards.

    • Gator Bites - Good Gator Behavior - Students receive gator bites a positive behavior reward. Teachers pull 2 gator bites a week from their classroom bucket and those students are able to go to the office for a small reward.

    • Grow Strong - Grow Strong is a running team that completes a 10 week training program in the fall and spring each year.  Students learn proper running form, apply character traits to being a runner and gain confidence in running in order to complete a 5k at the end of the season.  GROW Strong is open to 3rd-5th grade students.

    • Principal's Award Winner - Each quarter one girl and one boy are chosen from each classroom to receive the Principal's Award and go to lunch with Mrs. Anderson.  These students are chosen based on their behavior which is based on CHOMP: Choose to be Safe; Have respect; Organize yourself; Make responsible choices; Practice honesty.

    • Science Fair - 3rd and 4th grade students are encouraged to particpate in our school science fair and this is also a requirement for 5th graders.  Four winners are then chosen to go and compete at our District science fair.  Pre-k through 2nd grade classes are encouraged to do a class project for display only.

    • Spelling Bee - The 4th and 5th grade students participate in classroom spelling bees.  The winners then participate in a school spelling bee with those winners going to participate in the district spelling bee.

    • Student Council - This is a student led organization for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.  Officers are elected yearly by the students after they share their goals for the year. The student council works hard throughout the year to enrich our school and our community.

    • Student SHAC - This is an organization made up of students K-5th grades.  They are chosen by the teachers to participate and help with healthy activities and projects throughout the year.  In the past they have created exercise videos for our students and staff to use.  This year they will be working on our brand new garden that we are very excited about.
