Description of Organization
The Student Council is the voice of the student body by representing student opinion, addressing campus and community needs through targeted activities, programs and meetings. The Council provides opportunities for leadership development in order to enrich the quality of student life and to benefit students in their future endeavors.
North Surry has an open membership policy. Any student, in good standing may be a delegate on the council for his/her class. The council, therefore, is unlimited in size. Student Council officers consist of an Executive Board and Class Officers. The Executive Board consists of: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Parliamentarian. The Senior, Junior, Sophomore and Freshman Class Officers consist of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. The Executive Board and the Class Officers are elected by simple majority. Over 95% of the Student Body participates in the voting process. All students are volunteers as are the advisors.
The Council provides camaraderie building events for the student body such as the homecoming activities. The members also participate in the community events such as the Surry County Sheriff’s Toy Drive Campaign, which over the last ten years has donated in excess of $50,000.00.
