• Pilot Mountain Elementary Welcome to Pilot Mountain Elementary School. The original school opened in 1924 and was held in the Pilot Mountain Auditorium Building for grades 1-11. In 1953 Pilot Mountain School moved into a new building for grades 1-12. When East Surry High School opened in 1961, Pilot Mountain School served grades 1-8. Changes came in 1993, when new elementary schools were built in Shoals and Westfield and the Pilot Mountain School became a middle school for grades 6-8. In 2010 the facilities were renovated for use as an elementary school once more. Pilot Mountain Elementary School opened its doors in the fall of 2010 and became the Pilot Mountain Pirates.
