  • What will my child need to be successful within this online magnet school?

    Your child will need a reliable Internet connection at home and an adult who is willing to be a support for your child by monitoring student progress, especially in the elementary grades.  Students should also have a strong skill set in leading self, such as self-awareness, accountability, resilience, and integrity.

  • How will this online magnet school be different from remote learning?

    Remote learning is a temporary solution for traditional schools to continue to support student growth and well-being on a case-by-case basis due to high-risk situations or in the case of another emergency closure.  Students enrolled in our online magnet school will continue with online instruction throughout all phases, including when traditional schools are utilizing face-to-face and remote learning.

  • What will my child receive by enrolling in Surry Online Magnet School?

    Students enrolled in our online magnet school will receive online instruction by teachers within the Surry County School district.  Students who qualify and wish to participate in a blended model will be able to participate in the many opportunities afforded through Surry County Schools, such as field trips, extracurricular clubs, athletics, internships, etc.

Testing/Accountability Questions and Answers

  • What will be the requirements for state testing for my child?

    Students enrolled in Surry Online Magnet School will participate in various formal and informal assessments.  Students will be required to take all state-required assessments in a face-to-face setting within Surry County Schools.  Students with an IEP, 504, and/or LEP plan will receive the accommodations within these plans.
