2021 Enhanced Learning Mini-Grant Program
Congratulations to our 2021 Enhanced Learning Mini-Grant winners! These educators received over $6,000 in mini-grants to be used during the 2020-2021 school year. The Foundation looks forward to hearing about successes in these classrooms.Breakout Education - Breakout EDU kits will help students learn problem solving, teamwork, leadership skills, and perseverance when working in groups. This project fits all curriculum areas and can be used with every class in the school. Solve the clues and unlock the locks for higher learning skills! -Stephanie Bode, Gentry Middle SchoolBringing the Joy of Literacy - This project will provide children in the Cedar Ridge community with reading opportunities during the summer by providing books and snacks at throughout neighborhoods that the school serves. STEM Fridays: Ending the week with a bang! - STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) tool bins will be provided to second grade classes to help students increase science and math knowledge. -Renee Bowman, Shoals Elementary School
Brave Kids Club - This project focuses on leadership characteristics and the social and emotional needs for students. Fiction and non-fiction children's books that reflect our country's population and that encompass the world will be provided to help students and teachers communicate better about how to overcome obstacles, show kindness to others, and make the world a better place. -Tonya Fletcher, Franklin Elementary School
Magic Book Bus Summer Literacy Project - The Magic Book Bus will ride through the Flat Rock Elementary community this summer providing books and snacks for children. Volunteers will read to children at each stop. The project will provide continued literacy immersion for children within the community which will help reduce the impact of "summer reading regression." -Blair Lambert, Flat Rock Elementary School
Connecting with Nature Through a Lens - Through the use of trail cameras placed in strategic campus locations, science students will research populations, biodiversity, and animal behaviors. Students will collaborate to place and monitor the trail cameras, then use them to observe and record patterns over a specific time frame. -Erin Jones, Surry Early College High School
Rev Up Your Learning - Student pit crews will learn about force and motion by designing, investigating, and recording data from their own pinewood derby cars. Students will work with Boy Scouts, local race car drivers, and community businesses in preparation for the culminating event, a pinewood derby race. -Jamie Mosley, Gentry Middle School
Wonderful Wednesdays: We Can Too! - This project will target the instructional needs of the Adapted Curriculum classroom students by incorporating STEM activities. This type of engagement will help these students learn to read, write, and solve math problems. -Celia Perry, Meadowview Magnet Middle School
Principal's Book of the Month Club - A book based on leadership characteristics will be given to all students every month. Classes will study these themes through extension activities and discussion questions which will jumpstart instruction of the leadership attributes and provide a common starting place for everyone, bringing consistency for all students and staff. -Sharia Templeton, Dobson Elementary School
