Graduation Ceremonies

  • The Surry County School System places great value on the insight of our students.  We have prepared them for Achievement, Leadership, and Life.  Therefore, at such an important time as a high school graduation for the Class of 2020, who has lost so much due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was important for us to involve students in the planning process.  We wanted to ensure their voices were heard and their desires represented for their graduation as we prepared to celebrate the culmination of their K-12 educational experience.

The Surry County School System's goal is to honor graduates and their classmates to the best of our ability during the pandemic.  SCS recognizes that a high school diploma and graduation is one of the most significant accomplishments in life, and we want to celebrate that milestone with seniors and their families in the best way possible.

The Class of 2020 was asked to complete a survey on graduation, given current COVID-19 restrictions.  The Surry County School System's goal is to honor graduates and their classmates to the best of our ability during the pandemic.  SCS recognizes that a high school diploma and graduation is one of the most significant accomplishments in life, and we want to celebrate that milestone with seniors and their families in the best way possible.

Students from all four high schools responded with a wide margin of students voting for option four, a Delayed Full (Traditional) Ceremony to be held at a later date.  With the votes tabulated, and in order to keep our students and our community safe, Surry County School System graduations will be held as follows:

Surry Early College - Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at 9:00 am
Surry Central High School - Thursday, July 30, 2020, at 9:00 am
East Surry High School - Friday, July 31, 2020, at 9:00 am
North Surry High School - Saturday, August 1, 2020, at 9:00 am

Please note the following disclaimer:  Due to COVID-19 and in order to keep our students and our community safe, graduations will need to be approved by the local health department, law enforcement, and meet the state-wide guidelines NCDHHS, NCDPS, NCDPI, and the Governor’s Office have outlined for graduations across the state at the time of the scheduled events.
