The Surry County Board of Education is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Steve Hall as the next Superintendent of Surry County Schools.
Dr. Hall brings nearly 30 years of experience in public education and has served as Superintendent of Elkin City Schools for the past three years. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation as a relationship builder and servant leader committed to promoting the success and well-being of students, staff, and communities. His leadership experience spans every academic level and reflects a deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing public education.
A native of Surry County and a 1991 graduate of North Surry High School, Dr. Hall's connection to Surry County Schools runs deep. His educational journey began in the district as a custodian and bus driver before he became a classroom teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, district leader, and ultimately superintendent. Those experiences have shaped his belief that every employee plays a vital role in supporting student success and have provided him with a unique perspective on school leadership.
Dr. Hall earned an Associate of Arts degree from Surry Community College and a bachelor's degree from Appalachian State University with certifications in elementary education and middle grades mathematics. He later earned a master's degree in school administration from Appalachian State University and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Gardner-Webb University.
Committed to lifelong learning, Dr. Hall actively participates in professional organizations and leadership development programs. With more than fourteen years of administrative experience, including fourteen years as a school administrator, he has established himself as a respected educational leader throughout the region and across North Carolina. He has also served as a mentor to numerous aspiring and current school leaders.

Dr. Hall and his wife, BriAnne, are proud to call Surry County home. BriAnne is currently in her 22nd year serving North Carolina public schools as an educator and educational leader. Together, they are the proud parents of Elliot and Kameron. Elliot attends the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and Kameron is entering his senior year of high school. Dr. Hall is also the proud father of his daughter, Katie.
Dr. Hall is honored to serve as Superintendent of Surry County Schools and looks forward to listening, learning, and working alongside students, employees, families, and community members. He is committed to leading with integrity, authenticity, and accountability while ensuring that every decision reflects the best interests of students.
Dr. Hall will assume his duties as Superintendent of Surry County Schools on July 8, 2026.
