Surry County Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Jason Llewellyn as the new Director of Transportation for the district. Llewellyn brings more than 12 years of school administrative experience and a deep connection to the Surry County community.

A native and current resident of Surry County, Llewellyn has spent his career focused on student success, safety, and operational excellence. He began his journey in educational leadership in 2013, serving as Assistant Principal at both North Wilkes Middle School and North Wilkes High School. He later took on the role of Principal at C.B. Eller Elementary School and currently serves as Principal at East Wilkes Middle School.

Llewellyn holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Lees-McRae College and a Master’s degree in School Administration from Appalachian State University.

In addition to his leadership experience in schools, Llewellyn is also a certified school bus driver, holding a Class B North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License with both “P” (Passenger) and “S” (School Bus) endorsements. His firsthand knowledge of school transportation systems gives him a unique, ground-level perspective on the importance of safe and efficient operations.

“Jason Llewellyn is a proven leader with a heart for service,” commented Superintendent Dr. Travis L. Reeves. “His background as a school administrator and his direct experience behind the wheel of a school bus bring a rare and valuable combination of skills to this role. He understands what’s at stake when we talk about student transportation: safety, reliability, and the trust of our families. I’m confident he will lead with integrity and a focus on continuous improvement.”

“I am truly humbled to be selected as the new Transportation Director for Surry County Schools. I’m thankful for the opportunity to come home and serve the community that I grew up in,” says Llewellyn. “As someone who has spent years in school administration and has driven many a bus, I know firsthand how critical our transportation system is to the success of our students. Every day, families trust us with their children, and that trust begins the moment a student steps onto the bus. Safety will always be our top priority, and I look forward to working alongside our drivers and transportation staff to ensure we’re providing safe, reliable, and efficient service to every corner of our district.”
