DOBSON, N.C. — Surry County School Nutrition will provide free summer meals for children and teens ages 18 and younger at Dobson Elementary School from June 1–25, 2026, Monday through Thursday.

Breakfast will be served from 8:00–8:30 a.m., and lunch will be available from 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. No identification is required, and all meals are provided free of charge.

Families should enter the cafeteria using the side entrance on West Atkins Street in Dobson, adjacent to Dobson Square Park and the Splash Pad. Street parking is available near the entrance. The air-conditioned cafeteria will offer families a comfortable place to enjoy nutritious meals throughout the month of June. Meals served at DES should be eaten on-site. Please do not use the main school entrance to visit the cafeteria.

Menus and additional information are available at surryschoolmeals.com.

In addition to on-site meal service, Surry County Schools is partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina and Amazon Logistics for Good to provide shelf-stable meal boxes to families in need throughout June and July.

Participating students will receive:

  • A two-day meal box in June containing two meals per day

  • A seven-day meal box in July containing two meals per day

Six hundred students were invited to participate in the pilot program, which was designed to support rural North Carolina families who may experience food insecurity and transportation barriers that limit access to traditional summer feeding sites.

The Surry County School Nutrition Department and the SCS Student Services Team collaborated to identify families who may benefit from additional food assistance throughout the summer.

Surry County School Nutrition will also provide meals to camps such as Seeds of Hope, a free summer camp for foster, adopted, and at -risk children led by volunteers and sponsored by Heroes Helping Heroes. The camp will be held at Gentry Middle School.
