Surry County Schools is pleased to announce several leadership transitions that will take effect July 1, 2026. These appointments reflect the district's ongoing commitment to developing leaders, supporting professional growth, and ensuring continued excellence across its schools and departments.
Dr. Matthew White has been named Director of District Operations and Academic Support Services. In this role, he will provide strategic leadership in district operations, human resources, student support services, school safety, and other district-wide systems and supports for student success. Working collaboratively with district leaders, he will help ensure safe, supportive, and high-achieving learning environments for students and staff across Surry County Schools.
Dr. White brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served Surry County Schools in a variety of capacities throughout his career. He began his journey with the district as a substitute teacher and tutor while attending college, before becoming a classroom teacher. Over the years, he has served as an assistant principal and principal, including three years as principal at Rockford Elementary School and four years at Surry Early College High School of Design. With administrative experience at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, Dr. White has developed a comprehensive understanding of the district's schools, students, and communities.
“I am grateful for the opportunities Surry County Schools has provided me throughout my career and excited for the chance to serve our students, staff, and communities in this role,” remarked White. “Having worked alongside students, teachers, and school leaders across many schools, I look forward to strengthening the systems, supports, and partnerships that help students succeed in every school across our district.”
Misti Holloway will transition to Surry Early College High School of Design, where she will serve as principal beginning July 1, 2026.
Mrs. Holloway brings more than a decade of school leadership experience to her new role. She has served as principal of Surry Central High School for the past six years and previously served as principal of Stokes Early College High School for five and a half years. Throughout her career in education, she has served as an English teacher, an Exceptional Children's teacher, an assistant principal, and a principal. Her experiences as both a classroom educator and school leader have equipped her with a deep understanding of student needs and the importance of building strong school communities.
Her previous experience leading an early college setting provides a strong foundation as she transitions to Surry Early College High School. Mrs. Holloway's commitment to academic excellence, student success, and college and career readiness will continue to benefit students as she begins this new chapter of leadership.
“It has been a privilege to serve as principal of Surry Central High School and work alongside such dedicated students, staff, families, and community members,” said Holloway. “While I am excited to begin a new chapter as principal of Surry Early College of Design, I will always be grateful for my time at Surry Central and proud of all we have accomplished together.”
The principal position at Surry Central High School will be posted in the coming days as the district begins the process of identifying the school's next leader.
Superintendent Dr. Travis L.
