#SCSUpdates | We’re excited to cheer on our Surry County Schools runners at the GROW Strong Race this Friday! 🎉 The race begins promptly at 9:30 AM, so please plan to arrive early to find parking and get settled.

Here are a few reminders to help keep the event safe, smooth, and enjoyable for everyone:
🔹 Parking: Parking areas are marked yellow on the map. These lots are paved and handicap accessible.
🔹 Spectator Areas: Recommended viewing spots are marked pink on the map. You’re welcome to cheer from other safe areas, but these are great places to show your school spirit!
🔹 Bring your signs and support! We encourage families to cheer for their runners and schools.
🔹 Please do not block the race course. Keep a safe distance from the course so runners have plenty of room. Any obstacle, especially near the finish line, can affect our runners’ safety and performance. This also keeps spectators safe as well.
🔹 Finish Line Reminder: Avoid gathering at the finish line. After your student finishes, meet them and then step to the side to keep the area clear for other finishers.
🔹 Restrooms: Restroom locations are marked teal on the map.
🔹 Safety: Surry County EMS will be on-site for the duration of the event.

Thank you for helping us create a safe and fun race day for all our students. We can’t wait to see you there!

OCTOBER 2025
Good afternoon. This is Hollie Lyons, Chief Communications Officer for Surry County Schools, with an important message.

This morning on Highway 89 near Hardy’s Custom Golf, deputies were involved in a brief incident on the roadway. The situation was quickly contained, and law enforcement has secured the area.

This situation unfolded very quickly and did not involve our schools or our students. All students are safe. Families may notice an increased law enforcement presence in the area as this remains a law enforcement matter.

Highway 89 is currently closed from Toast Road to Sparger Road. We do not know how long the road will remain closed. This closure will impact afternoon dismissal and will cause delays. Bus riders for Meadowview Magnet Middle School and Gentry Middle School will be dismissed at 2:30 p.m. in order to reach North Surry High School by 3:00 p.m. School will be dismissed at regular time. Again, please plan for delays during dismissal this afternoon.

We appreciate our partnership with local law enforcement and their quick response to ensure the safety of our community.
