Elementary teachers in Surry County have worked for the past two years to complete professional development in LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) This week, Cedar Ridge Elementary teachers were able to have a end-of-LETRS celebration. Great work, Panthers! #ThriveSCS

North Surry High School seniors are making their mark! 🌟 🎓
Today, seniors completed their senior walk, visiting all of our elementary and middle schools in the North District. They were greeted with cheers, high-fives, and smiles as they walked the halls where their educational journey began. It's a beautiful reminder of how far they've come and the bright futures ahead. Congratulations, seniors! We're so proud of you! 🎉 #ClassOf2024 #SeniorSpotlight

On Wednesday, winners of the Superintendent's Art Contest in March were treated to a field trip reward for all of their hard work! The day consisted of African Drum lessons provided by Living Rhythms, a tour of the Andy Griffith Playhouse and Museum, and an art workshop! 🪘🎨🎭
Thank you to the Surry Arts Council for providing our students with an AWESOME day! #ThriveSCS

A test of the Surry County Schools Notification System was conducted this afternoon. If you did not receive a call or email, please alert the main office at your respective school so staff can update your contact information accordingly.

This is a TEST of the SCS Mass Notification System. In the event of weather-related closures or an emergency, SCS will use this system to notify you of matters impacting our campuses. This is only a TEST. Thank you!

Congratulations to the following teachers who were recently notified they have successfully completed the requirements for National Board Certification. Due to widespread black ice throughout the county, Surry County Schools will transition to a Remote Learning Day today, Friday, January 19, for students and staff. This means all schools and facilities will be closed for students. Elementary students should complete work in their remote learning packets, and middle and high school students should access their assignments on Canvas.
Please see https://www.surry.k12.nc.us/page/remote-learning for additional information on Remote Learning Days.

Surry County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. This delay will help with visibility for bus drivers and allow time for temperatures to increase.

All evening events and activities are canceled for today, Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

Surry County Schools will be closed with an optional teacher workday tomorrow, Tuesday, January 16, 2024. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory that will be in effect until 7:00 AM Tuesday morning. There are snow-covered roads in the northern parts of Surry County, so please exercise caution if planning to travel.

Due to heavy rain and potential flooding, Surry County Schools will dismiss students at 1:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, January 9, 2024. All after-school events and activities are canceled, and there will be no after-school childcare this afternoon. We will continue to monitor weather conditions overnight.

All after-school events and activities are canceled for today, Tuesday, January 9, 2024. After-school childcare will close at 5:00 p.m.

Cedar Ridge Elementary will be transitioning to a remote learning day tomorrow, Wednesday, December 13th, 2023, due to an issue with the water pump. Late this afternoon, our maintenance department determined that there was no water at Cedar Ridge Elementary School and that the water pump would have to be replaced. This outage is currently affecting the entire school building. The water pump will be replaced by a contractor tomorrow. An update on this situation will be shared with parents tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. or before. Students should complete the work in their Remote learning packet sent home earlier this school year. Teachers will be in touch later this evening with further information via Canvas or Remind. Cedar Ridge Elementary is the only school impacted, all other schools are on normal schedule tomorrow.
