Due to a hazardous weather outlook and winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service for our area, Surry County Schools will transition to a Remote Learning Day on Friday, December 5, 2025, for students and staff.
This means all schools and facilities will be closed for students and staff. Elementary students should complete work in their remote learning packets, and middle and high school students should access their assignments on Canvas.
With the uncertainty of morning conditions, the district feels this is the safest option for students, staff, and the families we serve. Thank you, and please stay safe!

As we celebrate #AmericanEducationWeek, it’s the perfect moment to recognize the educators and staff who make every day count, including all 67 days and every day after. Thank you for your dedication to our SCS students. 💛

Good afternoon. This is Hollie Lyons, Chief Communications Officer for Surry County Schools, with an important message regarding car rider pickup at Gentry Middle School.
Parents driving to pick students up from Gentry Middle School will need to approach from the east side or the Mount Airy side of Highway 89. If parents are driving from Bealuh, Lowgap, or the Pine Ridge communities, they will need to turn right on Maple Hollow Road and detour from Red Brush Road to Toast Road. There will be volunteer fire department and law enforcement members who will direct you to the school for car line pickup.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we adjust our afternoon dismissal procedures to ensure the safety of our community.

This morning on Highway 89 near Hardy’s Custom Golf, deputies were involved in a brief incident on the roadway. The situation was quickly contained, and law enforcement has secured the area.
This situation unfolded very quickly and did not involve our schools or our students. All students are safe. Families may notice an increased law enforcement presence in the area as this remains a law enforcement matter.
Highway 89 is currently closed from Toast Road to Sparger Road. We do not know how long the road will remain closed. This closure will impact afternoon dismissal and will cause delays. Bus riders for Meadowview Magnet Middle School and Gentry Middle School will be dismissed at 2:30 p.m. in order to reach North Surry High School by 3:00 p.m. School will be dismissed at regular time. Again, please plan for delays during dismissal this afternoon.
We appreciate our partnership with local law enforcement and their quick response to ensure the safety of our community.
Starting this school year, all state-mandated test results will be available through Infinite Campus on both the student and parent portals. Parents and guardians can view these results under the Assessments tab in Infinite Campus.
If you have questions about accessing the portal or understanding the results, please contact your child’s school.

This team completes a lot of visible and behind-the-scenes work to ensure that students and staff can efficiently use technology during the school day. They are ready to jump in and help however they can whenever technical difficulties arise.
Technology constantly changes, and our IT professionals stay informed of trends and tools to serve our students, staff, and families well!
Happy IT Professionals Day to Tim Hippert, John Johnson, Jim Harvish, Jackson Lindsay, Michael Pinckney, Sebrena O’Dell, Chet Luffman, Jeremy Stoker, and Melissa Spurlin! 🎉
We would also like to give a shoutout to Director of Technology Lucas Gillispie for all of his hard work and dedication to our district’s technology oversight and implementation.
Thank you all for all that you do for Surry County Schools! 💙
