#SCSUpdates | Surry County Schools would like to remind you that we will review the Home Language Surveys of newly enrolled and kindergarten students to see if language testing for Multilingual Learner services is needed. We have 30 days from the date of enrollment to conduct a parent interview, record review, complete a WIDA Screener test, and notify parents of the testing results & ML Services.
Our initial Screener testing window for newly enrolled kindergarten and other new students (grades 1-12) is August 08, 2024 through September 19, 2024.

Today, our dedicated bus drivers returned their buses for the summer and enjoyed a well-deserved Hot Dog Celebration at the Bus Garage. On Wednesday, winners of the Superintendent's Art Contest in March were treated to a field trip reward for all of their hard work! The day consisted of African Drum lessons provided by Living Rhythms, a tour of the Andy Griffith Playhouse and Museum, and an art workshop! 🪘🎨🎭

A test of the Surry County Schools Notification System was conducted this afternoon. If you did not receive a call or email, please alert the main office at your respective school so staff can update your contact information accordingly.
This is a TEST of the SCS Mass Notification System. In the event of weather-related closures or an emergency, SCS will use this system to notify you of matters impacting our campuses. This is only a TEST. Thank you!
Due to widespread black ice throughout the county, Surry County Schools will transition to a Remote Learning Day today, Friday, January 19, for students and staff. This means all schools and facilities will be closed for students. Elementary students should complete work in their remote learning packets, and middle and high school students should access their assignments on Canvas.

Surry County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. This delay will help with visibility for bus drivers and allow time for temperatures to increase.

Surry County Schools will be closed with an optional teacher workday tomorrow, Tuesday, January 16, 2024. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory that will be in effect until 7:00 AM Tuesday morning. There are snow-covered roads in the northern parts of Surry County, so please exercise caution if planning to travel.
Due to heavy rain and potential flooding, Surry County Schools will dismiss students at 1:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, January 9, 2024. All after-school events and activities are canceled, and there will be no after-school childcare this afternoon. We will continue to monitor weather conditions overnight.

At this time, only one of these calendars meets the requirements put forth by the NC General Assembly, which means August 8 and August 12 may not be an option under current guidelines. These calendars are available for public comment, and those who wish to contribute feedback are encouraged to fill out the attached Google form or contact the Surry County Schools Administrative Offices at (336)386-8211.
