Surry Central High School is announcing an upcoming transition within its athletic department, as two respected coaches prepare to take on new roles and responsibilities.

After demonstrating dedicated leadership, Head Volleyball Coach Grayce Goins will step down from her coaching role as she prepares for maternity leave. Coach Goins has played an integral part in developing the volleyball program, mentoring student-athletes, and fostering a culture of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. Her impact on the program and the student-athletes she has coached will be felt for years to come.

“This was not an easy choice, as coaching has been an incredibly meaningful and rewarding experience,” continued Goins. “I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have worked with such dedicated student-athletes and to have been a part of their growth both on and off the court. I love Surry Central Volleyball and love coaching these girls. I remain committed to supporting the program in any way I can during this transition and wish the team continued success in the future.”

In addition, Head Basketball Coach Mandy Holt will transition from her coaching duties to a new role. Coach Holt has been a cornerstone of the basketball program, leading with passion and commitment while building strong relationships with her players and the school community.

Beginning in January 2027, Coach Holt will transition into a new role as Athletic Director for Surry Central High School. In this position, she will oversee all athletic programs, supporting coaches and student-athletes while continuing to strengthen the school’s tradition of athletic excellence.

Coach Holt shared: “It has been an incredible honor to serve as Women’s Basketball Coach at Surry Central for 24 years. Basketball has been my passion since I was a young girl, and it has meant so much to grow from a player to “Coach Holt.” I’ve been blessed by the many young ladies I’ve coached, watching them grow into strong women, wives, and mothers. I am deeply grateful to my former coaches, assistants, administrators, and athletic directors for their support, and to my family for their sacrifices along the way. Most importantly, I thank my Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, for the opportunity to do what I love. As one door closes, another opens. I will always bleed black and gold and am excited to continue serving Surry Central Athletics as Athletic Director in the near future.”

“Both Coach Goins and Coach Holt have made a lasting impact on Surry Central Athletics,” said Misti Holloway, principal at Surry Central High School. “We are incredibly grateful for their dedication and the positive influence they have had on our students. We are excited for Coach Holt as she steps into this new leadership role and continues to serve our school community in a broader capacity.”

“I would like to thank both Coach Goins and Coach Holt for their hard work and dedication to our volleyball and basketball programs. They have served as great leaders and positive role models in their respective programs. Additionally, I look forward to watching Coach Holt transition into her new role and using her experience and expertise to elevate our athletic department.” - Coach Bruner

Surry Central High School extends its sincere appreciation to both coaches for their years of service and looks forward to the continued growth and success of its athletic programs.
