#SCSUpdates | Due to continued concerns over secondary roads, low overnight temperatures, and the potential for black ice, Surry County Schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, February 6, 2026, with an optional teacher workday. Schools and offices will open at 10:00 a.m. for staff reporting to work.
Throughout the day, our team has monitored changing road conditions across the county and carefully explored every possible option, including limited community stops and reduced bus routes. We would like to extend our gratitude to our SCS Transportation Department, who have diligently been checking roads all week.
As always, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We want our students and staff back on our campuses, but ultimately, conditions in many areas remain too dangerous to risk travel.
