* GRADUATION UPDATE *
Good evening Eagles,
This is your principal Misti Holloway with an important update.
Tonight is a BIG night for your students, and we are working hard to make it a great evening despite the potential for hazardous weather conditions. Our topmost priority is to ensure everyone's safety and comfort while keeping the significance of this special day. Based on these factors, we believe it is in the best interest of our students, staff, and community to transition our Graduation ceremony indoors. Our plan is to hold the ceremony inside the gym at 7:00 pm. Because of this transition indoors, space will be limited. The ticket count for each student is 7 tickets.
Each ticket will be checked at the front doors of the school. Those without tickets may enter through the Science Wing entrance to view the graduation ceremony via live stream on YouTube in one of our overflow rooms.
Seniors will need to arrive at 6:00 PM, and guest admission will also begin at 6:00 PM. Handicap parking will be available at the front of the school.

Today, our dedicated bus drivers returned their buses for the summer and enjoyed a well-deserved Hot Dog Celebration at the Bus Garage. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to relax, enjoy lunch, and socialize before heading off for summer break. Last night, Surry Central High School hosted the Central District Band Concert for middle and high school students. 🎼🎷🥁
The event featured performances from students at Central Middle School and Surry Central High School led by their band director, Mr. Jordan Martin. They were greeted with cheers, high-fives, and smiles as they walked the halls where their educational journey began. It's a beautiful reminder of how far they've come and the bright futures ahead. On Wednesday, winners of the Superintendent's Art Contest in March were treated to a field trip reward for all of their hard work! The day consisted of African Drum lessons provided by Living Rhythms, a tour of the Andy Griffith Playhouse and Museum, and an art workshop! 🪘🎨🎭

What better way to celebrate #YouthApprenticeshipWeek than with an Apprenticeship signing event for Northern Regional Hospital? 🩺
Surry County Schools is thrilled that 17 students from East Surry High School, North Surry High School-Official, Surry Central High School, Surry Early College High School, and Surry Online Magnet School were recognized and signed as apprentices through Surry-Yadkin Works yesterday afternoon.

These teachers have participated in a rigorous process that helps them advance the quality of teaching and learning in their discipline and with the students they serve at different developmental levels:

An extra congratulations also goes out to 4 teachers who were recently notified of their successful National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) renewal. To retain NBCT status, teachers must complete a periodic demonstration of their knowledge and skills by submitting a Profile of Professional Growth (PPG) demonstrating how their practice continues to align with the Five Core Propositions in their certificate area.

Due to widespread black ice throughout the county, Surry County Schools will transition to a Remote Learning Day today, Friday, January 19, for students and staff. This means all schools and facilities will be closed for students. Elementary students should complete work in their remote learning packets, and middle and high school students should access their assignments on Canvas.

Surry County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. This delay will help with visibility for bus drivers and allow time for temperatures to increase.
All evening events and activities are canceled for today, Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
Surry County Schools will be closed with an optional teacher workday tomorrow, Tuesday, January 16, 2024. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory that will be in effect until 7:00 AM Tuesday morning. There are snow-covered roads in the northern parts of Surry County, so please exercise caution if planning to travel.
Due to heavy rain and potential flooding, Surry County Schools will dismiss students at 1:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, January 9, 2024. All after-school events and activities are canceled, and there will be no after-school childcare this afternoon. We will continue to monitor weather conditions overnight.
Registration Info Night is canceled for tonight. It is rescheduled for next Thursday, Jan. 18, from 5:30-7:30 PM.
