Presidents' Day is a U.S. federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday in February to honor the nation's presidents, specifically commemorating George Washington’s birthday. While officially designated as "Washington's Birthday" to honor the first president, it has evolved into a, popular day to recognize all U.S. presidents, often coinciding with Abraham Lincoln’s birthday

Something very exciting is happening at Shoals! On March 27th, we are having a Career Day! We are looking for some cool careers to showcase to our kiddos. Weatherly shares how her experiences in design, entrepreneurship, and storytelling led her back home to Surry County, and how she’s now helping elevate opportunities for others while pursuing her own creative passions as an author/ illustrator and business owner.

Her story is a reminder that students' experiences today can shape the communities they serve tomorrow!

#SCSUpdates | The SCS Inclement Weather Team has been out early this morning, checking road conditions, and found widespread areas of black ice that formed overnight. Due to these hazardous conditions, Surry County Schools will transition to a two-hour delay on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. Thank you, and please stay safe this morning.

#SCSUpdates | Surry County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Monday, February 9, 2026. This delay will allow for improved visibility for our bus drivers and provide additional time for temperatures to rise, especially in areas where dark bus turnarounds and overnight ice runoff could create hazardous conditions in the morning. #SCSUpdates | Due to continued concerns over secondary roads, low overnight temperatures, and the potential for black ice, Surry County Schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, February 6, 2026, with an optional teacher workday. Schools and offices will open at 10:00 a.m. for staff reporting to work.

Throughout the day, our team has monitored changing road conditions across the county and carefully explored every possible option, including limited community stops and reduced bus routes. We would like to extend our gratitude to our SCS Transportation Department, who have diligently been checking roads all week.

As always, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We want our students and staff back on our campuses, but ultimately, conditions in many areas remain too dangerous to risk travel.
