EARLY DISMISSAL AND REMOTE LEARNING DAY - HURRICANE HELENE Due to heavy rain and potential flooding, Surry County Schools will dismiss students at 2:00 p.m. today, Thursday, September 26, 2024. All after-school events and activities are canceled and there will be no after-school childcare this afternoon. Due to the hazardous weather outlook for tomorrow, which could impact student drivers, bus routes, and overall safety, Friday, September 27, will be a remote learning day for students and staff. Students should check their learning management system for assignments and instructions from their teachers. Safety is the top priority for Surry County Schools, and we believe this decision to be in the best interest of our students, staff, and families. Thank you for your understanding, and please stay safe over the next few days during this severe weather event.

At the conference, they attended general sessions, participated in educational workshops exploring various aspects of health careers, and competed in their respective competitions against students from all over the world. #SCSUpdates | Surry County Schools would like to remind you that we will review the Home Language Surveys of newly enrolled and kindergarten students to see if language testing for Multilingual Learner services is needed. We have 30 days from the date of enrollment to conduct a parent interview, record review, complete a WIDA Screener test, and notify parents of the testing results & ML Services. Our initial Screener testing window for newly enrolled kindergarten and other new students (grades 1-12) is August 08, 2024 through September 19, 2024.

🎉 Celebrating the Last Day of School with our amazing SCS Transportation team! 🌭 Today, our dedicated bus drivers returned their buses for the summer and enjoyed a well-deserved Hot Dog Celebration at the Bus Garage. On Wednesday, winners of the Superintendent's Art Contest in March were treated to a field trip reward for all of their hard work! The day consisted of African Drum lessons provided by Living Rhythms, a tour of the Andy Griffith Playhouse and Museum, and an art workshop! 🪘🎨🎭 Thank you to the Surry Arts Council for providing our students with an AWESOME day! #ThriveSCS

What better way to celebrate #YouthApprenticeshipWeek than with an Apprenticeship signing event for Northern Regional Hospital? 🩺 Surry County Schools is thrilled that 17 students from East Surry High School, North Surry High School-Official, Surry Central High School, Surry Early College High School, and Surry Online Magnet School were recognized and signed as apprentices through Surry-Yadkin Works yesterday afternoon.
