#SCSUpdates | Due to confirmed black ice, primarily in the Lowgap region of Surry County, Surry County Schools will be closed with optional teacher work day, today, Tuesday, December 9, 2025. Thank you, and please stay safe.

Thank you, have a good evening, and be safe tomorrow!

This means all schools and facilities will be closed for students and staff. Elementary students should complete work in their remote learning packets, and middle and high school students should access their assignments on Canvas.
With the uncertainty of morning conditions, the district feels this is the safest option for students, staff, and the families we serve. Thank you, and please stay safe!

As we celebrate #AmericanEducationWeek, it’s the perfect moment to recognize the educators and staff who make every day count, including all 67 days and every day after. Thank you for your dedication to our SCS students. 💛

Here are a few reminders to help keep the event safe, smooth, and enjoyable for everyone:
🔹 Parking: Parking areas are marked yellow on the map. These lots are paved and handicap accessible.
🔹 Spectator Areas: Recommended viewing spots are marked pink on the map. You’re welcome to cheer from other safe areas, but these are great places to show your school spirit!
🔹 Bring your signs and support! We encourage families to cheer for their runners and schools.
🔹 Please do not block the race course. Keep a safe distance from the course so runners have plenty of room. Any obstacle, especially near the finish line, can affect our runners’ safety and performance. This also keeps spectators safe as well.
🔹 Finish Line Reminder: Avoid gathering at the finish line. After your student finishes, meet them and then step to the side to keep the area clear for other finishers.
🔹 Restrooms: Restroom locations are marked teal on the map.
🔹 Safety: Surry County EMS will be on-site for the duration of the event.
Thank you for helping us create a safe and fun race day for all our students. We can’t wait to see you there!

This week, we celebrate our incredible school psychologists, Megan Roberson, Michael Wietecha, and Marissa Casper, for the vital role they play in supporting the success and well-being of our students.
School psychologists help create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments where every student can thrive. Their work lights the way for brighter futures across Surry County Schools. Thank you, Megan, Michael, and Marissa, for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to our students!

Why is the Title I PAC important? This district-level Parent Advisory Council builds capacity for engagement. Your participation will provide advice on all matters related to parental engagement in programs supported under Title I. Your voice will guide the representation of the needs of our parents, families, and communities for the purposes of developing, revising, and reviewing the District's parent and family engagement policy. Please join us for an overview of what to expect for the Title I PAC.
