Parents, encourage your student to try something new at lunch. Grab the pizza, sure…but don’t forget to add some fresh fruit, vegetables, or a salad to the plate, too!
A balanced lunch helps fuel students for learning, growing, and making the most of their school day. So, next time you’re in the lunch line, look beyond the usual choice and give something new a try!

Good evening, tiger Families! This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with Tiger News! Our staff are excited to see our tigers Monday night at orientation! Come between 5-7 to meet your child’s teacher and complete necessary paperwork. No sign-up is needed! Come at a time that works best for you! We will have before and after school childcare sign-ups in the office. Daycare starts on Monday, August 17th. Any families that need assistance with school supplies may visit Mr. King during open house. Annual Enrollment in Infinite Campus is open now! Save time at orientation and complete this now! If you are unable to attend orientation, enrollment must be completed before your child returns to school. If you need assistance, please contact our front office. We are excited to kick off the school year on Wednesday, August 12th, for the first day of school. We are excited to have free breakfast AND lunch this school year. Our doors open at 7:35 each morning. Parents are welcome to walk their child to class the first full week of school. Please communicate with your child’s teacher on how they will be getting home each day. School dismisses at 3:00 in the afternoon. When in the car rider line, please pull all the way up to spot #1. This helps with the flow of traffic. During afternoon dismissal, walk-ups may stand at the flagpole or behind the orange lines. We do not dismiss walkers on rainy days. All car riders must be dismissed to a vehicle in our car rider line on rainy days. This is to ensure the safety of all students. Please be patient with us these first few weeks as we learn your vehicles. As a reminder, kindergarteners will have staggered start which means half of our kindergarteners' first day will be on August 12th and the second half on August 13th. The entire kindergarten grade will return for their second day of school on August 14th. Families should have received a letter listing their child’s first day of school. PreK students will start August 26th and 27th. They will also have a staggered start. Mrs. Rodgers will communicate to parents what your child’s first day of school is. Weekly school communication will primarily be through email this school year. Please ensure we have your email on file and you are receiving our weekly Sunday night message. We want our students to learn respect, organization, have a great attitude, and responsibility this school year. Thank you for working together to help your child learn and grow! See you Monday night at orientation. Good night!

🎉 We are beyond excited to finally share some amazing news! 🎉
Back in February, Dobson Elementary PTO nominated Dobson Elementary School for the Subaru Loves Learning initiative through Scenic Subaru of Mount Airy, and we are thrilled to announce that DES was selected as this year's recipient! 💙📚
Keeping this a secret has definitely been the hardest part, but it's been so worth the wait! As part of this incredible partnership, our teachers will receive a special goody box along with the opportunity to purchase much-needed classroom supplies and educational materials to help support their students. Even better, the amazing team at Scenic Subaru will be showering our staff with fun surprises throughout the school year!
Their first surprise? They stocked our teachers' lounge with delicious snacks to help kick off an incredible school year! 🍿🍪🥤
We are so grateful to Scenic Subaru for investing in our teachers and students. Partnerships like these make a lasting difference in our school, and we can't wait to share all of the exciting surprises still to come!
💙 Thank you, Scenic Subaru, for showing Dobson Elementary so much love and support! Here's to a fantastic school year! 🍎✨

#SCSUpdates | Good afternoon, Surry County Schools families. Surry County Schools wants to make you aware of a recent cybersecurity incident involving Canvas, the learning management system used by school districts and organizations across the country.
Canvas has informed districts that a criminal threat actor gained unauthorized access to certain account-related data associated with some organizations using the platform. At this time, Canvas has indicated there is no evidence that passwords, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, financial information, or government identification numbers were involved.
Canvas reports that the unauthorized access was identified and removed, the vulnerability has been addressed, and additional security protections have been implemented. The company is continuing to work with outside forensic experts, federal law enforcement, and cybersecurity agencies as the investigation continues.
At this time, we do not have an estimated timeline for when Canvas access will be restored. Our staff is working closely with state officials, Canvas, and technology partners to monitor the situation and determine any potential impact to Surry County Schools.
Schools and teachers will communicate alternative methods for assignments and classroom communication as needed while Canvas access remains unavailable.
We understand the importance of protecting student and staff information and will continue to provide updates as more verified information becomes available. Thank you for your patience and support.

Good afternoon families. This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with information regarding today’s unplanned emergency drill. Today at approximately 2:45 pm, the school fire alarm went off. Students and staff evacuated quickly and safely. Once all students were accounted for, school dismissed as normal. When fire alarms go off unexpectedly, students and staff are unable to re-enter the building until it has been secured by emergency personnel. Due to the time of day, students were unable to return to the building to get their belongings. A basketball in the gymnasium, unintentionally, hit one of the fire pull stations and caused the fire alarm. Student safety is the highest priority for Surry County Schools. We would like to thank our local fire departments for their quick and thorough response. We appreciate your help and support.
