#SCSUpdates | The Inclement Weather Team has checked roads this morning and found areas where black ice has formed overnight. Due to black ice, Surry County Schools will transition to a 2-hour delay on Thursday, February 12, 2026. Thank you, and please stay safe this morning.

Due to these hazardous conditions, Surry County Schools will transition to a two-hour delay on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. Thank you, and please stay safe this morning.
#SCSUpdates | Surry County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Monday, February 9, 2026. This delay will allow for improved visibility for our bus drivers and provide additional time for temperatures to rise, especially in areas where dark bus turnarounds and overnight ice runoff could create hazardous conditions in the morning. #SCSUpdates | Due to continued concerns over secondary roads, low overnight temperatures, and the potential for black ice, Surry County Schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, February 6, 2026, with an optional teacher workday. Schools and offices will open at 10:00 a.m. for staff reporting to work.
Throughout the day, our team has monitored changing road conditions across the county and carefully explored every possible option, including limited community stops and reduced bus routes. We would like to extend our gratitude to our SCS Transportation Department, who have diligently been checking roads all week.
As always, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We want our students and staff back on our campuses, but ultimately, conditions in many areas remain too dangerous to risk travel.

Please check the Surry County Schools app, website, and social media platforms for weather updates. Should school be closed, schoolwide events will be rescheduled. Currently scheduled, our 3rd-5th grade students will take Check-In #2 in reading, math, and 5th grade science. Thank you for having your child here on time each day. Our PTO Tiger Bites cookbook order forms will be sent home Monday with money and orders due back on February 9th. Purchase your cookbook today! Our student council ambassadors are sponsoring a blood drive on Tuesday from 1-5:30 in our gym. You can schedule your appointment by visiting redcrossblood.org. Give the gift of life! Class group pictures will be on Thursday. Group picture money is due on Thursday when pictures are made. Dress to impress! On Tuesday, Good News club meets and on Thursday book battle meets.
