Good evening Tiger Families! This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with Tiger News! Our Book Fair will be open this week Tuesday-Thursday. Students will shop on the day they have media classes. Families may shop with their child at 7:35 or after school Tuesday-Thursday. The Good News club will meet after school on Tuesday in the cafeteria. Parents can pick up their child at 4:30 in the car line. Robotics will meet after school on Wednesday. Please send a note if your child plans to stay. Fall Pictures are on Thursday. Dress to impress! Pictures are pre-paid. Please send payment in the order envelope on picture day. Order envelopes were sent home last week. Our raffle ticket fundraiser ice cream party will be on Friday. With your help, we raised over $9,000! All money will go towards supplies for classrooms! We greatly appreciate your support of our school! Our leadership attribute this month is accountability. We will celebrate your child’s leadership on September 18th with our ROAR celebration. Students with less than 2 MIRS can attend. Thank you for advocating for your child to lead self. In an effort to increase communication with families, we have created a Tiger News calendar each month. This calendar highlights schoolwide events each month. Students were able to report the ways they spread kindness at their schools, discuss upcoming projects, and collaborate with other SAVE Promise Club members within Surry County Schools. Good evening Tiger Families! This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with Tiger News! There is no school on Monday, September 1st due to Labor Day holiday. We hope you enjoy this time with your family! Our student council election will be on Tuesday at 8:30 in the gym. We invite parents of students running for office to join us. We are proud of our courageous tigers! Thursday is Grounded Coffee Spirit Day! Stop by our favorite local coffee shop and let them know you are from Dobson Elementary! A portion of the sales will go to our school. Cub scout sign-ups will be Thursday night from 5:30-7:00 in our school cafeteria. Please enter through the exterior streetside door. We will have our raffle ticket fundraiser drawing on Friday! Check out our Facebook page for the winner! If you forgot to turn in raffle tickets and money on Friday, you may turn it in on Tuesday. We cannot accept any tickets and money after this date. Just a reminder, if you are picking up your child by walking in the afternoons, please stand at the flagpole or behind on the orange lines on the left side of our building. We ask that parents not walk down the sidewalk to get their child. We have a large number of walkers and we want to ensure we know who each child is going home with. Our first quarter reading goal has started! Students that reach their goal by the end of November, will get to attend our bowling trip. Please encourage your child to read each night. Good evening Tiger Families! This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with Tiger News! This week, all students will begin entering the building independently in the mornings. We have staff in the lobby to assist students who are still uncertain where their classroom is. Kindergarten, 1st, and 5th grade parent breakfast sessions are this week. You should have received a parent invite for our informational breakfast sessions at orientation. Parents are invited to eat breakfast with their child and stay to hear important information from the teacher. Please bring $1 or $5 bills for your breakfast. You cannot eat using your child’s lunch account. Please mark your calendars for these sessions. On Monday, our School Improvement Team will meet. Our 3rd graders will take their Beginning of Third Grade Reading EOG on Tuesday. Thank you for having your child here on time. Our PreK will have a staggered start - ½ of our PreK students will come on Wednesday for their first day of school and the other ½ will come on Thursday for their first day. The entire PreK class will come on Friday for their second day of school. We are excited to meet our new tigers! Our $1 Raffle Ticket Fundraiser ends on Friday! We ask all money and ticket stubs be turned in on this day. We encourage all students to sell at least 1 book of tickets. If you would like more tickets to sell, please send a note to your child’s teacher. You may request more tickets after you have turned in what you have sold. Each child that sells 1 book of tickets will receive a homework pass. Students that sell 10 books of tickets will get to attend an ice cream party with Mrs. Hazelwood! The top 3 winners will receive $50.00 cash, $20 cash or tickets to various museums and parks. All the money raised will go towards instructional needs. Our raffle drawing will be on Friday, September 5th. Thank you for supporting our school! Our PTO chocolate bar sale for 4th grade’s Raleigh field trip ends on Monday. Please return unsold chocolate and money to school on Monday. Thank you for supporting this fun and exciting trip for our students. Good evening Tiger Families! This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with Tiger News! Thank you families for a wonderful first week of school. We hope our tigers had as much fun as we did! 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade parent breakfast sessions are this week. You should have received a parent invite for our informational breakfast sessions at orientation. Parents are invited to eat breakfast with their child and stay to hear important information from the teacher. Please bring cash or check for your breakfast. You cannot eat using your child’s lunch account. Please mark your calendars for these sessions. Before and after school childcare starts on Monday, August 18th. Only students that have registered for daycare may stay. After school pick up is at the bus entrance door. Students will take their beginning of the year reading assessment this week. Thank you for having your child here on time, ready to work hard. Our Dobson Elementary Parade of Success is Friday morning at 8:30. Join us as we celebrate the kick off of a new school year! Students are encouraged to wear our tiger shirts on this day as we parade through the town square. Our $1 Raffle Ticket Fundraiser started Friday! FINAL Weekly Message from Mrs. Hazelwood for the 2024-2025 School Year: 5/18/25 Good evening Tiger families! This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with Tiger News! Our Kindergarten through 4th grade end of year awards program will be tomorrow, May 19th at various times in our gym. We hope you will make plans to join us to celebrate your child. We will have our yearbook signing Monday afternoon for students. We have a few extra yearbooks in our office. Yearbooks are $31. They are first come, first serve. Our reading incentive trip will be on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Please ensure your child wears complete shoes and has turned in their permission form and waiver. Parents that wish to attend will need to pay for their ticket at the gate as well as complete a waiver. Parents must have an up to date volunteer form completed in order to attend. Our 1st grade families are invited to a family lunch on Wednesday. We will be on a different lunch schedule for the remainder of the school year. Our 5th grade graduation will be on Thursday at 8:30 in our gym. 5th graders students need to arrive on campus no later than 7:50 on this day to prepare for graduation. Parents are invited to attend and commemorate their child’s elementary career with us. The last day of school will be on Thursday, May 22nd. Report cards will go home on the last day of school. School will dismiss @ 11:00 on this day. There will be NO after school daycare on the last day of school. The last day for after school daycare is on Wednesday, May 21st. Thank you parents for a wonderful school year. Our students and staff have worked hard to show growth. We are so proud of all! Have a safe and happy summer with your friends and family. Weekly Message From Mrs. Hazelwood: 5/5/25 Good evening Tiger families! This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with Tiger News! This week is Staff Appreciation Week! We have the absolute best teachers and staff in the entire world! Our staff work hard each day to support our student needs whether this be academic, physical, or social emotional. Let’s show our staff some love this week! Central Middle School will have their rising 6th grade transition night on Tuesday, May 6th at 6:00. We encourage our fifth graders to attend and learn about middle school. Wednesday is School Nurse Day! We are blessed to have Mrs. Monette Chattin at Dobson Elementary. Mrs. Chattin works hard to ensure our students are safe and their needs are met. We invite parents of 3rd-5th grade students to come after school on Wednesday between 3:15-3:45 to sign encouraging notes for their child for EOGs. We want to make this a special surprise for our students so please do not tell them. If you are unable to come, please send an encouraging note to school in an envelope and your child’s teacher can post it on our banner for your child to read. On Friday, our 5th grade students will take their science EOG. Thank you for ensuring your child goes to bed early Thursday evening and arrives on time ready to work hard and be focused. On Thursday, gardening club will meet. Please send a note if your child plans to stay. As a reminder, all pictures and picture money is due. Mr. Tim Burton has over 40 years of service to SCS, providing superior transportation and safety for students across the district. Mr. Tim can be seen serving students in other places, not just on bus 41 alone. He often visits classrooms to engage with students at DES. Whether carving pumpkins with Pre-K, reading aloud to classes during Read Across America, or simply being a lunch buddy, Mr. Tim is dedicated to serving as a role model and supporting students.
