#SCSUpdates | Due to the forecast of severe weather tomorrow, Monday, March 16, Surry County Schools will be closed for students, with an optional teacher workday for staff.
According to the National Weather Service, the highest and most widespread threat will be strong, damaging winds, with the potential for wind gusts between 60 and 70 miles per hour in our region. Winds are expected to begin increasing around 9:00 a.m., with the strongest conditions developing late morning and around midday, and continuing into the afternoon.
Because these wind speeds exceed what we consider safe for operating school buses, we do not feel comfortable having buses on the road during these conditions.
Again, Surry County Schools will be closed for students tomorrow, with an optional teacher workday for staff.
Thank you, and please stay safe.

#SCSUpdates | Surry County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Monday, February 9, 2026. This delay will allow for improved visibility for our bus drivers and provide additional time for temperatures to rise, especially in areas where dark bus turnarounds and overnight ice runoff could create hazardous conditions in the morning. Thank you, have a good evening, and please stay safe tomorrow.

#SCSUpdates | Due to continued concerns over secondary roads, low overnight temperatures, and the potential for black ice, Surry County Schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, February 6, 2026, with an optional teacher workday. Schools and offices will open at 10:00 a.m. for staff reporting to work.
Throughout the day, our team has monitored changing road conditions across the county and carefully explored every possible option, including limited community stops and reduced bus routes. We would like to extend our gratitude to our SCS Transportation Department, who have diligently been checking roads all week.
As always, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We want our students and staff back on our campuses, but ultimately, conditions in many areas remain too dangerous to risk travel.
Thank you for your understanding, and please stay safe.
