We had “snow” much fun at our paint and pancakes night! Thank you to all the families who came out to support our student council and our art program! We love seeing your creativity shine, and some great quality time was shared this evening. We still have some student ornaments available for purchase, please send $5 or 3 canned foods to school in order to bring home an ornament. This money and food goes into our student assistance fund.

Fifth graders have been visited by two special elves. Sparkle and Twinkle have been up to all kinds of silliness around the building and in fifth grade. Let's hope they can make good choices before heading back to the North Pole!

Fourth and fifth graders earned a spot in the school Spelling Bee by winning their classroom Spelling Bees. They spelled a total of 109 words in the school Bee, and we couldn’t be prouder! Mason Frederick will advance to the county Spelling Bee in February to proudly represent Mountain Park.

12.10.23 Good Evening Mountaineers! This is your principal Matt Scott with this week’s updates. On Monday, our 4th graders will visit the Andy Griffith Playhouse. We will have our Spelling Bee on Thursday at 1:00. On Friday, the Surry Central Chorus will come and carol through our halls, and our 5th-grade girls group will have lunch with other 5th-grade girls from around the county. Friday we will have a Paint & Pancakes Night. Plan to join us at 5:00 for a pancake supper and then at 6:00 for a Paint Night. We will have student-made ornaments available at this event that you are going to want to purchase as well. This evening will support our Student Council and Art program. The Rada orders have been delivered. They are in the front office. All orders must be picked up as we will not send any orders home with students. As a reminder, in order for a student’s absence to be excused, a note must be sent no later than two days after the student’s return to school. Looking ahead, our last day of school before Christmas break will be Dec. 21. That day is an early release day at 1:00. Also, there will be no after-school child care on that day. Those are all the announcements for tonight. I look forward to seeing our Mountaineers back on campus tomorrow.

On Saturday, our Mountaineer Engineers along with other top teams from the region, competed in the First Lego League Regional Semi-Finals in Charlotte, NC. Competition was tough but our Mountaineers were successful and they finished 16th in the robot runs. This score along with robot design, innovation project, and core values scores qualified them for the State Semi-Finals that will be held at NC A&T in Greensboro on January 13, 2024! We are so proud of our Mountaineers! Good Luck in the State Semi-Finals!
