Principal Update 11.7.23
Good Evening Mountaineers! This is your principal Matt Scott with a quick update.
My message on Sunday mistakenly said that Good News will meet on Wednesday and Thursday. Good News will only meet on Wednesday, like normal.
Today your Rada fundraising books were sent home with students. This is an easy fundraiser and great for Christmas presents. There are links on our website and Facebook page that take you directly to the fundraiser attached to our school.
On Thursday, we want to invite our students to wear Red, White, and Blue as we celebrate and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
Also on Thursday, we have a special treat coming home with all students. Carolina Ink has generously donated a Mountain Park shirt to all our students and staff. We’ll be sending those home on Thursday.

Pre K started their pumpkin experiment last week.
Last week, Mrs. Pierce and Mrs. Arrington’s classes enjoyed a tasty science experiment combining a liquid and a solid to make a gas. These purple fizzy cows were a refreshing treat in the heat.
The Mountain Park PTO Rada Fundraiser start this week! Rada cutlery is the perfect gift. This fundraiser runs from November 6 to November 17. You can shop the fundraiser at the link below.

Principal Updates for 11.5
Good Evening Mountaineers! This is your principal Matt Scott with this week’s updates.
Monday and Thursday our Grow Strong team will practice after school until 4:00. Robotics will practice after school on Tuesday until 4:30. The Good News Club will meet after school on Wednesday until 4:30, and on Thursday. On Tuesday, our 2nd grade will visit the Andy Griffith Playhouse for a field trip. There will be no school on Friday as we honor our Veterans and celebrate the Veteran’s Day Holiday.
Our PTO Rada fundraiser begins tomorrow November 6 and runs through November 17. Books will come home this week and there will be an online link on our website and Facebook. Please help us share this on social media.
The Elkin Baptist Association has reached out to us to offer Christmas assistance to our families. They offer a toy store for families to shop for Christmas toys at a discounted price. If you are interested in signing up for this assistance, please contact the school or come by the front office by Tuesday, November 7th.
For our 3rd through 5th grade, the Science Fair will be held on Thursday, November 9th. All participants should see Mrs. Dollyhite to set up their projects.

Fifth graders celebrated Halloween by becoming detectives, facing their fears, and putting their math skills to the test.
Today we wore Red for Red Ribbon Week!
Tomorrow we will "Chase our dreams, not drugs" by wearing our PJ's!

Tomorrow students can dress up in their Halloween costumes to say Boo to bullies and drugs! Remember Halloween costumes must be school appropriate (not too scary, no weapons or blood).

Report cards come home on Monday. Please look over these with your student and help them make goals for the next grading period. We’re very proud of the growth we’ve seen so far this year and we hope you will celebrate that with your students. On Monday and Thursday, our Grow Strong team will practice after school until 4:00. Robotics will practice after school on Tuesday until 4:00, please note that this is a change. The Good News Club will meet after school on Wednesday until 4:30. Also on Wednesday, we will celebrate our DoNut Ever Give Up Awards and Pizza with the Principal. There will be no school on Friday for a teacher workday.
Red Ribbon Week, which is the largest Annual Drug Awareness Campaign for students in the United States, will be celebrated from October 31 to November 2. This year’s Red Ribbon theme is “Be Kind to Your Mind, Live Drug Free.” Our students will participate in school lessons and activities to learn more about Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is a reminder that everyday Americans across the country make significant daily contributions to their communities by being the best they can be because they live Drug-Free. Please take this opportunity to talk to your kids about Red Ribbon Week, healthy behaviors, and the dangers of all substance use.
Our Spirit Week to celebrate Red Ribbon Week is on our school website and Facebook page. On Monday we will show a Future Me Without Drugs by dressing like your future self or what you want to be when you grow up. Tuesday is Say BOO to Bullies & Drugs Day and you can dress in your Halloween costume. Wear red on Wednesday to celebrate the theme “Be Kind to your Mind, Live Drug Free.” On Thursday we will Chase our Dreams, not drugs, and wear our pajamas.

Tomorrow starts Red Ribbon Week at MPES. Monday is "Dress as Your future Self" day. Students should come dressed as what they want to be when they grow up. This is a great opportunity to talk with your student about the many different career options they have. Check out the list below and use this to guide your conversations for what they want to dress as tomorrow! We can't wait to see what careers they choose!

Our Fall Festival was wonderful last night! Thank you for making our Fall Festival a fun and exciting night.
Kindergarten visited the Court House on Thursday for a little trick or treating! What a sweet field trip.
Next week, we are celebrating Red Ribbon Week. Our theme this year is Be Kind to Your Mind and live Drug Free!

The Good News Club will meet after school on Wednesday until 4:30, and on Thursday, our Kindergarteners will visit the Historic Courthouse Square in Dobson for a Halloween Boo Bash.
Our Chocolate Bar sale is winding down. We need all money turned in by Friday, Oct. 27. We have just a few boxes left for anyone that can help us make a final push. We really need to sell all our boxes in order to reach our goal. We’ve given out some awesome prizes and I’m sure we’ll give more out this week. Remember we have a few special prizes that we will celebrate later as well.
Our Book Fair will be held this week. Students will be able to visit the book fair any day. Parents may come or bring their student every afternoon from 3:00-3:30, and Family Night at the Book Fair will be on Thursday, Oct. 26 from 6:00-7:30.
As a reminder, being at school every day and on time is of the utmost importance. If you do not arrive at school by 8:00, please park and walk your student in as they have to be signed in.
We will now be offering SchoolCash Online as our preferred method of payment for all school fees, including everything from field trips to yearbook.
