Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May each year — in 2025, that falls on Monday, May 26. It's a day to honor and remember the men and women who have died while serving in the United States military.
Many people observe Memorial Day by:
Attending or participating in memorial ceremonies or parades.
Visiting cemeteries and placing flags or flowers on the graves of fallen soldiers.
Holding moments of silence.
Spending time with family and reflecting on the freedoms secured through sacrifice.

Rockford’s Silver Apple Award goes to Mary Beth Overby. Connie had this to say about Mary Beth: Where does education start? Home-Maybe not. For some children, it starts in an early education center. Last, for some, it begins at school.
So, each and every one of you deserves the Silver Apple Award. Thank you for being the teacher, teacher assistant, and other staff member that you are. You do an amazing job with each and every one of our kiddos here at Rockford.
The person that I have chosen for the Silver Apple Award.
I understand your role. They say that you don't know someone until you have walked in their shoes. Well, I have walked in your shoes. You hold a special place in my heart.
A person on the outside looking into your classroom, "It's a world of play". But children learn through play, your job is so important as an early educator in the view of the young children that you work with every day. Your role as the teacher is to help children develop social skills, learn to follow routines, develop motor skills, learn self-help skills, but at the same time, your role is to prepare the kiddos for Kindergarten.
This person jumped right into this role and has transformed her classroom into one that showcases these skills each and every day for all to admire and appreciate. I am giving the Silver Apple Award to Mary Beth Overby.

It was a day full of adventure, learning, and smiles! 🐴🎡📚

Our multilingual learners in Mrs. Day’s classroom worked very hard this year in listening, reading, speaking, and writing in English. We are incredibly proud of our students at Rockford who demonstrated English Language Proficiency this year. Speaking more than one language is a powerful skill! It opens doors to new opportunities, builds bridges between cultures, and enriches our entire community. We celebrate both their English growth and the valuable linguistic and cultural assets that being bilingual brings to our school!
