Groundhog Day is a fun tradition that helps us look ahead to the coming of spring! Will the groundhog see his shadow or not? We’ll have to wait and see!

The February 2nd Board of Education meeting will transition from in-person to virtual, and will begin at 5:30 pm. A link to the meeting will be posted online tomorrow. February is a great time to promote the importance of good oral hygiene! Developing healthy dental habits—including brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits—helps children get a strong start toward a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.

February is American Heart Month! At Rockford Elementary, we’re learning the importance of taking care of our hearts through healthy choices, staying active, and showing kindness to one another.

Together, we can build healthy habits for a strong future—one heart at a time! ❤️

February is American Heart Month, a national observance to raise awareness about heart disease, the leading cause of death in the U.S., encouraging everyone to learn about risks, adopt heart-healthy lifestyles (diet, exercise, no smoking), and take steps like managing blood pressure and cholesterol, with major support from the American Heart Association (AHA) and the CDC.

February is National Magnet School Month, designated by Magnet Schools of America (MSA) to celebrate these innovative public schools that offer specialized themes (like STEM, arts, or global studies) and attract diverse students from across districts, promoting academic excellence and choice. Schools celebrate with events, awareness campaigns, and activities like the annual student poster contest, highlighting their unique programs and commitment to equity.

Surry County Schools (NC) offers two main magnet programs: Meadowview Magnet Middle School, focusing on design/STEM (part of the Early College High School initiative), and the Surry Online Magnet School, a K-12 virtual/blended option for flexibility and college/career prep, with a unique design/leadership focus for older students. These schools provide specialized learning, from hands-on design at Meadowview to online flexibility and early college access at the Online Magnet School, catering to diverse student needs within the district.

Love the Bus Month is more than just a celebration—it’s a reminder of the essential role school buses and their drivers play in the lives of children and their families. It’s a time to show gratitude, raise awareness, and come together as a community to keep our kids safe on their journey to school. Whether you're a parent, student, educator, or bus driver, this month is an opportunity to show appreciation and promote the continued success of safe and reliable school transportation.
