Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®)
For 40 years, March has been officially designated by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) for the observance of Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®), the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools and communities across the nation.
The purpose of MIOSM is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children—and to remind citizens that school is where all children should have access to music. MIOSM is an opportunity for music teachers to bring their music programs to the attention of the school and the community, and to display the value that school music brings to students of all ages.

Congratulations to our Student Leader of the Month!
Carter Hice was chosen to be the Active Listener for the month of February! Carter works hard each and every day to set a good example for other students and friends. Thank you for leading with a kind heart!

Congratulations to Deanne Fitzgerald for being awarded Staff Leader of the Month for February!
Mrs. Fitzgerald is an exceptional teacher and role model who deeply impacts her students. She is always there to listen and goes above and beyond to help them reach their goals. As both a mentor and a cheerleader for her Grow-Strong team and all the students at RES, she has earned their admiration and respect. Her dedication is evident in the way her students look up to her. I was particularly moved when one student shared that if Mrs. Fitzgerald ever left RES, they would want to follow her wherever she goes. That comment really opened my eyes to the profound influence she has, and it’s clear that she’s doing something truly special to earn such deep affection from her students.

First grade students had a delightful experience attending the performance of Disney's Aladdin JR. at the Andy Griffith Playhouse on Thursday. This musical is based on the 1992 Academy Award®-winning film and the 2014 Broadway adaptation, bringing the beloved story of Aladdin to life on stage. The playhouse, originally built in the 1920s as the first public school in Mount Airy, now serves as a vibrant cultural center operated by the Surry Arts Council, offering year-round classes, theatre productions, art camps, and live music concerts.
This field trip provided our first graders with an enriching cultural experience, fostering their appreciation for the performing arts.

Throughout the month of February, our Gators worked hard on learning Active Listening skills. These students practiced listening closely to what others have to say and listening with their whole body. Congratulations to our Leaders of the Month for showing outstanding listening skills! 🐊
