Mrs. Coe's class has spent some time learning and talking about our lungs. Students were then given the opportunity to blow up balloons! How fun! 🎈

Happy TA Appreciation Day! These folks take on many responsibilities and tasks each day to be sure that students are being served in the best way possible. From helping with morning duties to working one-on-one with students, these staff members ROCK! Let's show our love and appreciation for Mrs. Hazel, Ms. O, Mrs. Snow, Ms. Hall, Mrs. Chilton, Mr. Jason, Miss Tomchick, Mrs. Elliott, Ms. Kidd, and Mrs. Johnson! 🧡🐯 #TAAppreciationDay #ThriveSCS #TigersROAR

Good evening, Tiger Families! This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with Tiger news! This week we will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! Students will learn about Hispanic heritage throughout the week! We will end this event on Friday with a special assembly. Students are invited to wear their traditional clothing on this day. “Start with Hello” week will be this week! This is an initiative to show kindness to others. Students are invited to dress out each day in support of this event. We will kick off on Monday by wearing green! On Tuesday night a representative from the Cub Scouts will be in our cafeteria from 5:30-7:00 for cub scouts sign-ups. Please enter at the exterior cafeteria entrance door. On Tuesday and Thursday robotics will meet and on Thursday art club will meet. Please send a note if your child plans to stay. On Wednesday, Mrs. Coe’s class will travel to the Earle Theater. We will honor and celebrate our teaching assistants on Thursday with TA Appreciation Day! Our TAs serve our school in so many ways from small group reading to lunch duty-they are always ready to help students and staff! We appreciate their service to our school! Friday morning 3rd grade parents are invited to attend our 3rd Grade Parent Breakfast at 8:00. We hope you will make plans to attend this event with your child and learn about third grade! Our students are working hard to set reading goals! Our first quarter reading incentive trip will be in December. We would love for all tigers to attend. We want our students to fall in love with a good book! Have a fabulous week! Good night!
5th grade students learned about the respiratory system and, more specifically, how our lungs are responsible for getting oxygen to our bodies through inhalation and exhalation. They then built a model to gain a better understanding of the concept. Great work! 🤩

Our "Tinkering Tigers" robotics team has been working very hard in preparation for the competition ahead! Go, tigers, go! 🐯

3rd grade students explored with Play-Doh to better understand fractions! What a fun way to learn!

Next week is "Start with Hello" Week! It is going to be all about meeting new people, making new friends, and making everyone feel welcome and safe at DES. Below, you will see the themes for each day!

Good evening, Tiger Families! This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with Tiger news! First off, thank you families for supporting our $1 raffle ticket fundraiser. With your help, our final total was over $12,000! That is amazing! This money will be used for continuous school improvement and resources for teachers and students! This week is Book Fair Week! Students are welcome to shop for books in our media center! Parents may come in and shop with their child after school each day until 3:30. Monday, September 11th is Grounded Coffee Spirit Day! Stop by one of our favorite coffee shops and let them know you are there to support Dobson Elementary! A percentage of the profit goes to our school. Our student leaders of the month will celebrate on Wednesday with Mr. King. We are proud of our tigers leading self! On Thursday, progress reports will go home. Sit down with your child and set goals for the remainder of the quarter. On Thursday, student council will meet. Please send a note if your child plans to stay. Finally, there is no school on Friday, September 15th due to a teacher workday. Thank you in advance for reading with your child each night. Our first semester reading trip will be in December. We are setting goals for reading in class each day. Encourage your child to find a book to enjoy! Have a wonderful week! Good night!
We had lots of fun things going on today relating to our Raffle Ticket Fundraiser! Students who sold 10 books of tickets were invited to an ice cream party this afternoon with Mrs. Hazelwood. What a reward! 🍦

Surry Central will be hosting a Fall Carnival and Powder Puff Game on Friday, September 22nd, with the carnival beginning at 5:30 and the Powder Puff Game beginning at 7:30! This event is for helping seniors raise money for a senior trip!

Bus Riders of the Month:
Ragnar Gosselin
Carolina Hernandez Villicana
Melanie Vega
Talia Gearheart
Melanie McMillian
Carlos Menera-Rojas
These tigers enjoyed popsicles and time at the park with Mrs. Queen for showing leadership on the bus and following expectations! 🚍🤩

This morning, students AND staff participated in "D.E.A.R." time. This meant that everyone dropped what they were doing, grabbed a book, and started reading for 20 minutes. Not only does this encourage our tigers to associate positivity with literature and the act of reading, but also to make it a priority for themselves. Great job, tigers! 🧡 #ThriveSCS #DEAR

Grounded Coffee Spirit Day!

We are bringing Trunk-or-Treat back to Dobson Elementary School next month! Please note that this is ONLY for DES students during the school day.
