Good evening, tiger families! This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with tiger news! This week is Read Across America Week! We will have daily activities planned to encourage reading with students! Chorus will meet after school on Monday, Book Battle on Tuesday, and art club on Wednesday. Please send a note if your child plans to stay. Our PTO will meet at 6:00 at Dobson Elementary on Tuesday night. We invite any parent that is able to join us. Friday will be our Book Character parade. Encourage your child to dress up as their favorite book character. Looking ahead, there is no school March 2nd-10th due to spring break. Have a wonderful week! Good night!
A test of the Surry County Schools Notification System was conducted this afternoon. If you did not receive a call or email, please alert the main office at your respective school so staff can update your contact information accordingly.
2/23/24- American Heart Challenge
Good evening, Dobson family. This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with a very important reminder regarding our school’s Kids Heart Challenge program. While this program’s primary purpose is to raise much needed funds for the American Heart Association and it’s many deserving families in need, there is also a way for our school to benefit. If 50% of our students simply register online, our school receives a gift certificate from US GAMES to purchase much needed PE equipment. Please consider taking a few minutes to register your child. Reaching this goal would greatly benefit our school and help provide additional resources for our PE department. The program ends Tuesday, February 27, so please take action soon. Thank you and have a good night.
This is a TEST of the SCS Mass Notification System. In the event of weather-related closures or an emergency, SCS will use this system to notify you of matters impacting our campuses. This is only a TEST. Thank you!
Collection envelopes with all the information you need will be sent home this week for our "Kids Heart Challenge", which raises money for the American Heart Association. Money can be raised both in person AND online!

"Hey Tiger Parents! We want to thank everyone who came out to support our Sweetheart Dance this past Friday. We were able to raise a little over $1000! Thanks to the fundraisers and donations we have been able to do many things publicly and behind the scenes. 🎊

All this is in addition to the playground equipment (donated in 2022), new tables for the library(fundraised for 2023), and this year supporting our specialty teachers (2024). We are thankful to have the parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and support of local businesses to be able to make an impact on the students and staff at DES. If you would like to learn more about the PTO, our next meeting will be February 27th at 6:00 pm. Come join us! 🐾
Here’s what you need to know about the Book Fair, which will take place from February 19th – February 22nd. Students will have the opportunity to shop during the school day. 📚
Parents can come shop with their child at the following dates and times:
Monday, February 19th from 3:00 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.
Tuesday, February 20th from 7:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.
Wednesday, February 21st from 7:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.
Thursday, February 22nd from 7:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.

The cost is $5 per person - ages 4+
Cash and Venmo accepted.
Pizza, snacks, and cupcakes will be available for purchase.
Dress to impress, dust off those dancing shoes, and come ready for an unforgettable night!
**This event is for students and families of Dobson Elementary only. All children must be chaperoned by a guardian. Cash and Venmo are accepted at the door, as are concessions. There will be prizes. A DJ who specializes in children's events will be entertaining the dance.**

Good evening, tiger families! This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with tiger news! This week is School Counseling Week! We are blessed to have Mr. King at Dobson Elementary! We appreciate the time he spends helping our students! Our chorus will meet on Monday and book battle on Tuesday. Please send a note if your child plans to stay. Our student leader lunch will be on Wednesday courtesy of Coaches in Dobson! Our district spelling bee is on Thursday. We wish Liam Mitchell good luck in the spelling bee. Progress reports will go home on Friday. Please sit down and set goals for your child for the remainder of the third quarter. We will celebrate student leadership on Friday with our ROAR celebration. We will be on a different lunch schedule on this day. Our PTO Sweetheart Dance will be on Friday, February 9th from 6:30-8:00 at the Barn at Heritage Farm. Ticket cost is $5 at the door and concessions will be available for purchase. Dress to impress! This event is for Dobson Elementary School students only. Our 2024-2025 Kindergarten Registration is now open! Children that are 5 on or before August 31st are eligible for kindergarten next school year. Registration links can be found on our school website and Facebook page!
