4/22/24
Good evening, tiger families! This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with tiger news! This week we will have a Penny War! Students are invited to bring in loose change for their grade level. Each coin is worth a different point value. The grade level with the most points will win a pizza party sponsored by PTO. The money collected will go to our backpack program. 3rd-5th grade students have started Step Up to the Plate! Our students are focusing on being an active participant in class, communicating, resiliency, and accountability as we countdown to the end of school. On Tuesday and Thursday this week our 5th graders will travel to Central Middle School and Surry Central High School. Kindergarteners will take a walking field trip around town on Wednesday. Please return your child’s permission form if they plan to attend. Running club and chorus will meet on Monday and chorus and gardening club will meet on Thursday. Please send a note if your child plans to stay. Our PTO will meet Tuesday night at 6:00. We invite any parent that is interested in this group to join! This week our students will celebrate their leadership with ROAR. Students with less than 2 MIRS, no OSS/ISS, will attend. On Friday, progress reports will come home. This is a great time to set goals for the remainder of the school year. Friday is also field day! Please have your child wear comfortable shoes, a hat, and sunscreen on this day. Students may bring a towel to sit outdoors and a change of clothes. We will be on a different lunch schedule on this day. Finally, Saturday is the SCS Mad Dash 5K! We wish our running club good luck as they compete in the race! School pictures have come home. You may purchase what you would like to keep and send back the rest with payment. Please have all pictures and picture money returned by April 26th. Mark your calendars for our End of Year Awards ceremony for K-4 students on May 20th. Our 5th grade graduation will be on May 23rd. This is also the last full week to order a yearbook! We do not order extras! Get your yearbook today! Have a wonderful weekend! Good night!

Good evening, tiger families! This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with tiger news! This week our 2nd grade students will take the CogAT. Thank you for having your child here on time each day. Monday night is Arts Wow at PMMS. We wish our chorus students good luck as they perform. On Monday, 5th graders will travel to MMMS. On Tuesday, 1st graders will go on their field trip. 3rd and 4th graders will go on their field trip on Wednesday. 5th graders will go on field trips Thursday and Friday. Please return your child’s permission form if they plan to attend. Friday is the Special Olympics! We wish Mrs. Coe’s class good luck as they compete! Running club will meet on Monday and chorus and gardening club will meet on Tuesday. Please send a note if they plan to stay. We are approaching our end of year reading assessments for students. Talk to your child about their reading goal and what they can do to be successful. Our end of year reading trips will be in May and we would love for all students to attend! Some of our tigers were recognized at Monday's Board Meeting for their spectacular accomplishments!
Madeline Branch was recognized for her participation and receiving 1st place in her division in the North Carolina State Science Fair. It is clear that Madeline worked very hard on her project titled "Three Chews for Milk", and DES is proud of her! 🥇
Mrs. Simpson and several students were also recognized for having artwork on display at the Surry County Courthouse. DES is honored to have been chosen for this opportunity and grateful for Mrs. Simpson's teaching and guidance in art! 🎨

Good evening, tiger families! This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with tiger news! Tuesday is our 5th grade DARE Graduation. We invite our 5th grade parents to come and join us for this special event. Our student leader lunch will be on Wednesday. We are proud of our tiger leaders! On Tuesday, running club will meet, chorus will travel to the Andy Griffith Playhouse on Wednesday, and gardening club will meet on Thursday. Please send a note if your child plans to stay. Our PTO Little Caesar Pizza Kit fundraiser ends on Wednesday. Please turn in all money and orders on this day. Our school goal is $1,800 that will be used for school improvement activities. Finally, there is no school on Friday due to a teacher workday. We are in our last quarter of school. Thank you for having your child here each day. School attendance is vital to your child’s education. We appreciate your advocating for this and working together to help your child! Have a great week! Good night!
Fundraiser Information - 4/2/24
Tiger Families,
We will begin our last PTO fundraiser for the 2023-2024 school year. We will be selling Little Caesars pizza kits. Your child will bring home a brochure this week, and it will have plenty of pizza, cheese breads, and even cookies to choose from. You can also purchase online by using the link below. Please make all checks out to "Dobson PTO". Return the brochures, money, and checks by April 10th to your child's teacher. The kits will be delivered to the elementary school the week of April 29th. Happy National Assistant Principal Appreciation Week! This morning we recognized our AP, Mrs. Ashley Queen, on the announcements and she was presented with a bag full of gifts from both students and staff. We love you, appreciate you, and cannot express how grateful we are for all you do here at Dobson Elementary School! 🧡

There are many things that April is known for, one of them being Child Abuse Prevention Month. In order to show our support, we encourage everyone to wear BLUE this Friday, April 5th! 💙

Good evening, tiger families! This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with tiger news! I pray your family had a happy Easter break with family and friends. There will be no school on Monday. Students return from break on Tuesday, April 2nd. This week is Child Abuse Prevention Week! Thank you for advocating for a safe and happy home for your child. Students are encouraged to wear blue on Friday in support of this. We will have Drop Everything And Read on Tuesday. Please encourage your child to bring a book to enjoy. Our 3rd-5th grade students will take their MOCK EOG Wednesday through Friday. This information is used for review before end of grade tests in May. Thank you for having your child here and on time. We will be on a different lunch schedule on these days. On Tuesday, running club will meet, Wednesday chorus will meet, and student council on Thursday. Please send a note if your child plans to stay! This week is Assistant Principal Appreciation Week and Thursday is School Librarian Appreciation day! We are so blessed to have Mrs. Ashley Queen and Mrs. Amy Edwards at Dobson Elementary! Both of these ladies work tirelessly, in different ways, to educate and support our students! Our PTO is selling Little Caesars Pizza kits. Fliers went home with students last week. Our goal is $1,800 for school improvement needs. The sale runs until Thursday, April 11th. Last Friday, our "Book Battle" team, coached by Mrs. Siomara Baltazar and Mrs. Amy Edwards, had the opportunity to use their knowledge of specific literature and abilities to collaborate in a competition against 11 other schools.
We would like to congratulate them on placing TOP FIVE in the competition! We are proud of their hard work, leadership, and love for reading!



Congratulations to these young ladies for having their art recognized in the SCS Superintendent's Art Contest! We want to thank our art teacher, Mrs. Melissa Simpson, for all she has done to help our artists SHINE! 🤩
