In honor of Earth Day last month, and their butterfly life cycle study, Pre K students made caterpillars and watched them turn into butterflies!

Today is National School Principals Day, and we have the best of the best to celebrate! Mr. Scott's leadership inspires everyone around him to be the best they can be. We are thankful for all he does for our school and community!
Congratulations to Ms. Marshall for being award the 2024 Enhanced Learning MIni Grant from the SCS Educational Foundation. Ms. Marshall is using the grant to ensure that she has a class set of ukuleles, and other materials to make the ukes sustainable. We are very proud of you Ms. Marshall!
Last week we celebrated our wonder volunteers! We are grateful for all the time they dedicate to our building, students and staff.
Our Student Council/Save Promise Club members visited Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation to visit with the residents. Our student team was able to deliver cards of encouragement created by our student body. The students went to be a blessing to the residents, but in fact, found that the precious residents blessed them. It was a privilege for our students to bring the spirit of Mountain Park Elementary into a local nursing home.

Good Evening Mountaineers! This is your principal Matt Scott with this week’s updates.
We will have Math Monday tomorrow after school until 4:00. We will also celebrate our DoNut Give Up awards and Student Leaders of the Month will attend Pizza with the principal tomorrow. On Tuesday, our Student Council wil take the uplifting notes they wrote to Chatham Nursing & Rehabilitation. Our 5th Grade will visit the Science Institute on Wednesday, and on Friday, our Student Council and SAVE Promise club will have lunch with our Superintendent, Dr. Reeves.
Please be reminded that Friday is an early release day at 1:00. If you have transportation changes, make sure to write a note in your student’s planner or send a note.
Looking ahead, we will have EOGs on May 14 and 15 for 3rd-5th grades, and 5th grade science EOG on May 16th. 5th Grade will have their promotion ceremony on May 23 at 9:00. Please mark these important dates on your calendar.
Student Transportation Verification forms and Field Day volunteer forms came home on Friday. The transportation forms need to be completed and returned by May 10th. Even if you are not riding a bus next year, we need that documented and sent back.

Yesterday was National Kindergarten Day, and we couldn't wait to celebrate our Kindergarteners and Teachers! Our Kindergarten grade level brings so much joy to our building! Thank you Mrs. Moore, Ms. Norman, Mrs. Embry and Ms. Sarah for making our Kindergarten classrooms an exciting place to learn.

The Book Fair is this week! Students may shop any day during different points of the afternoon. Also, parents can come shop between 3 and 3:30, and Family Night will be Thursday from 6:00-7:30.
We will have Math Monday tomorrow after school until 4:00. On Tuesday and Thursday, our Grow Strong team will practice after school until 4:00. Our 5th Graders will visit Surry Central High School on Tuesday and they have a field trip to the Science Institute and Meadowview Magnet Middle School on Friday. Our 3rd grades will have a field trip to Cinder Ridge Farm on Friday. On Saturday morning, the SCS Mad Dash will take place at Surry Community College. We wish our GROW Strong Participants the best of luck as they compete in the race!
Our end-of-year reading assessments are beginning this week and will continue, in different grade-levels, through the end of school. It is extremely important that students arrive on time and stay for the entire day all year long, but especially now through the end of the school year.

We will have Math Monday tomorrow after school until 4:00. On Tuesday and Thursday, our Grow Strong team will practice after school until 4:00. This year’s last progress reports will come home this week. Please look over them and help your child set goals for finishing the year strong!
Our 5th graders will have individual and group cap and gown pictures tomorrow, and then they will have their DARE graduation on Tuesday at 1:00. 5th graders will also travel to the county touch-a-truck event on Thursday and on the way back to school, they will tour Central Middle School.
Congratulations to our chorus students participating in the ArtsWOW program tomorrow night at Pilot Mountain Middle School. Also, good luck to our Special Olympians on Friday as they will travel to the Special Olympics.
