Good Evening Mountaineers! This is your principal Matt Scott with this week’s updates.
We will have NC Check-ins this week for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. We will test Reading on Tuesday, Math on Wednesday, and for 5th graders, Science on Thursday. These test help us make decisions about how best to meet the needs of our students. It is very important that students be well-rested and on time every day, but especially these days as we will begin the check-ins shortly after 8:00.
We will have Math Monday tomorrow after school until 4:00. On Tuesday, our Book Battle team and our Grow Strong team will practice after school until 4:00. On Wednesday, the Good News Club will meet until 4:30. Our Grow Strong and Book Battle teams will also practice after school Thursday until 4:00. We want to wish out Book Battle team good luck as they’ll travel to Surry Community College on Friday to compete against other Surry County Schools teams.
Our Yearbook sale is closing on March 30. You can order your yearbook by going to the website at the bottom of this message, or you may go to our website or Facebook to find a link to order the yearbook. Surry County Schools Preschool Applications are now available for the 2024-2025 school year. Applications can be picked up in the front office.
Mountain Park Ruritan Club Easter Egg Hung is Saturday, March 23 from 10-12:00 here on campus. They will have a coloring contest, crafts, snacks, train rides, and more!

Pre K went on a nature walk today. We seen a mama bird and her egg; we then did research to find out what kind of bird mama was-a Killdeer! #thriving

Pre-K has been enjoying a fun filled Read Across America Week!




5th graders made observations about the physical properties of a chips ahoy cookie. After making observations they had to identify and find their own cookie based on their descriptions!








Cat in the Hat or Students in a Hat? Mrs. Wilkins class enjoyed hat day mixed with a little drop everything and read. These readers are leaders.










Mike Maher, local bee keeper came and spoke with Mrs Pierce and Mrs Arrington’s 2nd grade classes. They learned about the life cycle of bees and how honey is made.










We loved meeting our rising Kindergarteners last night!





Read Across America Spirit Week has been so much fun! We loved Pajama Day, Crazy Hair Day and Sock Day!

We will celebrate Read Across America Week this week with several activities at school including Spirit Days. Monday will be "Daisy-Head Mayzie" day and we’ll wear our hair crazy with our PJs. Tuesday is "Fox on Socks" day as we’ll wear crazy socks. Wednesday is "The Cat in the Hat" day and we will wear our favorite hat. Thursday is "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" day and we will wear green. Friday is "Oh, The Places You'll Go" day and we will dress up like your favorite book character or what you want to be when you grow up.
We will have Math Monday tomorrow after school until 4:00. On Tuesday, our Book Battle team and our Grow Strong team will practice after school until 4:00. On Wednesday, the Good News Club will meet until 4:30. Our Grow Strong team will also practice after school Thursday until 4:00 and our Book Battle team will have a Novel-in-a-Day on Saturday beginning at 9:00.
Tuesday Night we will host next year’s Kindergarteners for a Beginner’s Night. Doors will open at 6:00 and the program will start at 6:30. Wednesday we will host a Blood Drive from 1:00-5:00, if you’re interested in giving and haven’t signed up yet, please call the school. If you are interested in donating any snacks or drinks for our blood drive, please send them to school with your student and turn them in at the front office. We will have spring pictures on Thursday. Forms will come home tomorrow. We will have individual and class pictures. If you’d like class pictures, they must be paid for by Thursday.
As a reminder, the Bill Hall Bridge over the Mitchell River just below the school will be closed beginning tomorrow. This is the bridge on Zephyr Mountain Park Rd. Our buses will have the following changes: Students who live on Liberty School Rd. or Golden Rd. will now ride bus 37 and their pickup and drop-off times will not change. Bus 37 morning times will be approximately 10 minutes earlier and Bus 37 afternoon times will be approximately 10 minutes later. Bus 36 morning times wil be approximately 10 min. early and drop off times will also be approximately 10 min. early. Please take this into consideration tomorrow morning if you usually come to school from the Zephyr community.

MPES Kindergarteners and teachers had a fun day making pancakes after reading the book Curious George makes Pancakes. The students were able to choose their favorite toppings for their pancake!











🪨📄✂️ Champions! Our staff competed in a friendly rock, paper, scissors challenge yesterday. Congratulations to our Champions! 1st Place: Ms. Chattin 2nd Place: Mrs. Moore 3rd Place: Mrs. Pierce 4th Place: Mrs. Marion 5th Place: Mrs. Sanders



On Saturday, February 17, two Mountain Park students participated in the Regional Science Fair. Atticus Hawks (5th Grade) and Oliver Marshall (4th grade) faced tough competition this year with many projects focusing on health and environmental issues. Atticus brought home 3rd place in his division! Please join us in congratulation our Mountaineers on this achievement!





Our Book Battle team enjoyed a Novel in a Night a few weeks ago. They read the book "Rules", enjoyed some treats, learned to communicate with just notes, and ended with a dance party! Our team is working hard to prepare for the battle and we are so proud of them.
