#SCSUpdates | Due to a light dusting of snow on a number of roadways in the Flat Rock, Slate Mountain, and Westfield communities, Surry County Schools will operate on a 3-hour delay on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
Good evening Mountain Park. Progress reports will be sent home this week. On Monday, student council stays after school until 3:45. Tuesday night is Mountain Park Spirit Night at 13 Bones. Please come out and support our school if you can. On Wednesday, 4th grade will be traveling to see The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. The Good News Club also meets after school on Wednesday. On Thursday, 5th grade will be traveling to see The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. On Friday, December 6th, there is a 1:00 dismissal so that staff can participate in professional development. Looking ahead on December 10th, all kindergarten, first, and second graders will be performing in the gym at 6:00. If you still have a picture package, please return the pictures if you are not purchasing them. Additionally, yearbooks are on sale for $25 if you would like to purchase one. If you would like to purchase pictures or a yearbook, the check should be made out to Strawbridge Studios.
It's Thanksgiving Break which means it's a great time to sanitize and clean backpacks and coats. Let's wash away those winter germs.

Student Council Members visited Stone’s Throw Christian Ministry to deliver Sunshine Bags for Western North Carolina and learn of how they support our community members. Student Council also shopped and packed Thanksgiving Meal Boxes for MP Backpack Families.
Mrs. Pierce and Mrs. Arrington’s class worked together on Thanksgiving STEM. They worked together to build traps to catch turkeys. 🦃
What was that flying in Mountain Park yesterday? It was our creative student Balloons over Mountain Park. Our 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade was a huge success!
Hello Mountain Park. On Tuesday this week, students will be competing in the annual Turkey Trot to try to win a free turkey. There is no school on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. We hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. We will look forward to seeing students back at school on Monday, December 2nd.
The 5th grade class proudly graduated from the D.A.R.E. program after a 10-week course with Officer Latza. The special guest speaker, Judge William F. Southern, spoke to the students about perseverance and his own experience in the D.A.R.E. program. Oliver Marshall, Layla Osborne, and Aisley Williams were selected to read their essays at the graduation ceremony, and they did a fantastic job representing what the class learned during the program. We couldn’t be more proud of how these 5th graders represented themselves today.

5th graders took in the novel “Tuck Everlasting” this week by candlelight to match the 1800s setting. After reading each day, students added to their booklets to dig deeper into the characters and meanings behind the novel. We didn’t want the novel to end!
#SCSTransportation | Yesterday, Surry County Transportation picked up five of the nine new diesel buses our county will receive this school year, thanks to the NC Bus Replacement Plan! These buses will help ensure safer and more efficient transportation for our students.

Good evening Mountaineers! Tomorrow is picture retake day for anyone who missed fall pictures in October. On Wednesday, the Good News Club meets after school. On Thursday, third grade will be traveling to Old Salem. On Friday, 5th grade DARE graduation will be in the gym at 9:00 in the morning. We hope to see all 5th grade parents and guardians here for this event. Looking ahead, there is no school Wednesday, November 27th through Friday, November 29th for the Thanksgiving holiday. Hello Mountain Park. There is no school tomorrow November 11th for Veterans Day. On Tuesday at 5:00, the PTO will be meeting in the cafeteria. On Wednesday, the Good News Club stays after school. On Thursday from 1:30 until 2:30, we will be having a school-wide dance party to celebrate meeting our fundraiser goal of $4,000. Thank you all for your support with this! Thursday after school, the running club meets. On Friday, the Mountain Park Running Club will be participating in the Grow Strong 5K at Fisher River Park. The race starts at 9:30. On Saturday, our Lego Robotics team is traveling to the First Lego Regional Tournament at Surry Community College. We are excited to see our Mountaineers shine at both events! Looking ahead, fall picture retakes are on Monday, November 18th. 5th grade DARE graduation will be at 9:00 on Friday, November 22nd in the gym. We appreciate all of you.
