During the month of January, our staff members work hard leading our students and each other with leadership skills. This month, Haley Newman was selected as the staff member who goes above and beyond for her peers and students by showing outstanding communication skills. Peers say, "Haley communicates effectively with her students. She not only uses verbal cues but also nonverbal. She communicates through positive body language too. She is seen smiling, making eye contact with her students as well as having open arms with not only her current students but former students as well."

During the month of January, our students have worked hard to be a good example of communication skills. The students below worked on expressing ideas clearly and effectively. This includes giving and receiving feedback. We are so proud of these Gators for being outstanding leaders in our school and community!

Student of the Month-
Throughout the month of January, many students are recognized for doing outstanding acts of kindness and leadership. Each month, one of these students is chosen as student of the month as a recognition to them going above and beyond the expectations given to them. This month, Raelynn Castro was chosen as our January Student leader of the month. Congratulations to Raelynn, keep working hard!

#SCSUpdates | Due to continued concerns over secondary roads, low overnight temperatures, and the potential for black ice, Surry County Schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, February 6, 2026, with an optional teacher workday. Schools and offices will open at 10:00 a.m. for staff reporting to work. Throughout the day, our team has monitored changing road conditions across the county and carefully explored every possible option, including limited community stops and reduced bus routes. We would like to extend our gratitude to our SCS Transportation Department, who have diligently been checking roads all week. As always, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We want our students and staff back on our campuses, but ultimately, conditions in many areas remain too dangerous to risk travel. Thank you for your understanding, and please stay safe.
