The month of April is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month.
This year, Surry County Schools’ School Social Workers with help from Boho Honey Boutique and the Pilot Mountain Civic Club will be selling t-shirts made by Jam’N Tees. All proceeds will go directly to the School Social Workers’ family assistance funds to help assist families in Surry County Schools with needs such as, but not limited to, utilities, medication, shoes, clothing, beds, etc. We hope you all will consider purchasing a shirt to support SCS’s School Social Workers but more importantly to advocate for preventing child abuse in Surry County. April 4th will be “Wear Blue Day” for Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month. So plan to wear your shirts during the month of April and April 4th countywide! Today, our Kindergarten students had a visit from Essie Raye’s mom, Nicole Moser. Nicole is a dental hygienist. She taught them about how to take care of their teeth.
Class pictures are scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, February 25th. Pictures of the class are $10.00.

Tuesday, February 25th: 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM

Due to the possibility of inclement weather this week, we are rescheduling class pictures to Tuesday, February 25th.
Rockford’s Silver apple award goes to Connie Griffith. Our Rockford staff has our own personal Rockford greeter. Connie greets us every morning with “welcome to Rockford Elementary“. When you come in the door, you can’t help but smile and laugh when you hear her greeting. It helps our day get started off knowing that we are at Rockford as staff and family ready to work with the students and give our best. She is so positive and friendly. She has such energy and is always willing to help. Connie is so good at working with her students offering them patients and love. We are so thankful that Connie is a part of our Rockford family.

Mrs. Custodio's fifth-grade math students celebrated completing their Fractions Unit and Valentine's Day by enjoying a delicious yogurt parfait. Each ingredient used was carefully measured using measuring cups. Students then used their knowledge of adding fractions to calculate the total amount of ingredients used to create their parfait.
Congratulations to Fatima Pacheco-Navarro for securing second place in the Surry County Spelling Bee! This is a remarkable achievement, and the RES community is proud of her accomplishment.
