This is an important message for students who ride bus 53:
Bus 53 will not run today, Monday, September 16. Unfortunately, we are unable to secure a driver. Students who ride bus 53 will need transportation to school this morning and should be picked up in the car line this afternoon.

Rockford's SAVE Promise Club will be hosting Start with Hello week at our school this week (September 16-19). We will have a special dress up theme for each day. Start with Hello Week has a purpose to promote inclusivity, kindness, and a sense of community in schools. The week is part of the Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) program, a nonprofit organization that aims to prevent violence in schools, homes, and communities. We will have educational activities all week on inclusion and building friendships!
Note: Wednesday is school picture day, attachments can be removed before pictures.

We celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15) to recognize the achievements and contributions of Hispanic-American champions who have inspired others to achieve success. The observation began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988. The theme for 2024 is “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together.”

International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration, began when teacher Terry Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009.
The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe.
Each year on International Dot Day – with the help of people just like you – the inspiration continues. What started as a story in the pages of a book is transforming teaching and learning around the world as people of all ages re-discover the power and potential of creativity in all they do.
P.S. International Dot Day 2024 will be a very special one, as we’re celebrating our 15th anniversary!!

Rockford PTO is sponsoring a float in SCHS homecoming on Friday Sept. 20th.
Students will need to be there by 3:30. Parade starts at 4:00.
Parents will have to drop them off and pick them up at our float. A child will not be allowed to get off the float until we see a parent or an adult present.
They should also wear Rockford shirts or Rockford

Honoring September 11th with Patriotism
Mrs. Freeman's second-grade class commemorated September 11th by creating beautiful patriotic ribbons. The students learned about the importance of unity and remembrance on this day and expressed their thoughts through this creative activity. Their ribbons serve as a symbol of respect and remembrance for the heroes and loved ones affected. Proud of our young learners for honoring this day in such a meaningful way! ❤️🤍💙

This week was community helpers week for Miss Newman and Mrs. Porterfield’s Kindergarten classes. On Monday, they had a visit from Officer Danley. On Thursday, local firefighters from Central Surry Fire Department visited and brought the fire truck.

Exciting Science Fun in Fourth Grade! 🧪⚡ Our Fourth Graders had a fantastic time during a visit from Mr. Edwards from the Science Institute! He brought his Snap Circuit kits, and the students got hands-on experience exploring different types of circuits and learning how they work. The kids loved building their own circuits and seeing science in action. A big thank you to Mr. Edwards for sparking curiosity and bringing science to life in our classroom!

"Today, we pause to remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, a day that changed our nation forever. We reflect on the bravery of first responders, the resilience of survivors, and the spirit of unity that brought us together in the face of tragedy. As we teach our students about this significant moment in history, we also celebrate the values of courage, compassion, and hope. Let us never forget the importance of coming together as a community to support one another."
