This month, the science club learned about rainbows! They talked about how and when they are formed and discovered some interesting facts! They then went outside and made their own rainbows! So much fun!

Our 4th and 5th-grade students enjoyed a special trip to the Andy Griffith Playhouse to see Disney’s Descendants: The Musical!

A highlight of the show was seeing our very own music teacher, Maddie Robertson, on stage as Maleficent—what a fun and memorable experience for our students!

Miss Robertson and Mrs. Custodio in March 2009, when she was playing the role of Belle, and us again in March 2026, with her playing the role of Maleficent.

Her performance was outstanding!🖤

Based on the popular Disney Channel Original Movies, Disney’s Descendants: The Musical is a brand-new musical jam-packed with comedy, adventure, Disney characters, and hit songs from the films! Imprisoned on the Isle of the Lost – home of the most infamous villains who ever lived – the teenage children of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Jafar, and Cruella De Vil have never ventured off the island… until now. When the four troublemakers are sent to attend prep school alongside the children of beloved Disney heroes, they have a difficult choice to make: should they follow in their parents’ wicked footsteps or learn to be good?
Disney’s Descendants: The Musical is produced through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International, MTI.

The Silver Apple Award goes to a very hardworking, gentle-mannered, kind soul. This award is well deserved because she is always willing to help out when needed, and she definitely goes the extra mile in the classroom and cafeteria for our students and staff. For the month of March, we nominate Mrs. Angie Flippin for the Silver Apple Award.

#SCSUpdates | Due to the forecast of severe weather tomorrow, Monday, March 16, Surry County Schools will be closed for students, with an optional teacher workday for staff.

According to the National Weather Service, the highest and most widespread threat will be strong, damaging winds, with the potential for wind gusts between 60 and 70 miles per hour in our region. Winds are expected to begin increasing around 9:00 a.m., with the strongest conditions developing late morning and around midday, and continuing into the afternoon.

Because these wind speeds exceed what we consider safe for operating school buses, we do not feel comfortable having buses on the road during these conditions.

Again, Surry County Schools will be closed for students tomorrow, with an optional teacher workday for staff.

Thank you, and please stay safe.

Happy Pi Day! 🥧➗
Celebrated on March 14 (3.14), Pi Day honors the mathematical constant π and the fun of math and learning. It’s a great day to explore numbers, problem-solving—and enjoy a little pie, too!

What is Pi Day? -Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi), observed on March 14 (3/14) because the date's numbers match pi's first digits (3.14). It's a day for math enthusiasts to enjoy activities like eating pie (or pizza), reciting pi digits, and learning about its importance in math, science, and engineering, with official recognition by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2009 and UNESCO in 2019.

What is Pi (π)?
A mathematical constant representing the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, always approximately 3.14159.
An irrational number, meaning its decimal representation goes on infinitely without repeating.
Why March 14?
In the U.S. date format (Month/Day), March 14 is written as 3/14, reflecting the first three digits of pi (3.14).
Who Started It?
Physicist Larry Shaw at the Exploratorium science museum in San Francisco in 1988.
How is it Celebrated?
Eating: The most popular tradition is eating pies (sweet, savory, or pizza).
Math Activities: Reciting pi digits, solving math problems (like those from NASA), and learning about its applications.
Einstein Connection: It's also Albert Einstein's birthday, adding to the festivities.
Official Recognition:
In 2009, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution supporting Pi Day.
In 2019, UNESCO declared it the International Day of Mathematics.
