finalists for the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) 2025 Burroughs Wellcome Fund NC Beginning Teacher of the Year Award, including Dobson Elementary School's own Sydney McKeaver Coe!
This prestigious recognition highlights her dedication and impact as an educator. One finalist will be honored as the 2025 NC Beginning Teacher of the Year after a comprehensive selection process by a panel of judges.
As part of this achievement, finalists will attend a professional development week at the Truist Leadership Institute in Greensboro, N.C., from March 24–28, 2025. The winner will be announced during a special ceremony on March 27, 2025, at the Elliott University Center auditorium at the University of North Carolina Greensboro.

Staff Leaders of the Month for December. The fifth grade team collaborates together and works together very well to plan lessons and execute them daily. Laura works diligently to provide thoughtful math lessons that are engaging for students on all levels. Pattie works to make her science lessons enjoyable and multi-sensory, reaching students who learn in more than one way. Angela works to deliver interesting and level-appropriate material in her reading class so that the instruction is accessible to all students. The fifth grade team is the epitome of collaboration as they use it daily and do it very well.


Congratulations to these 5th grade students that earned extra recess for meeting their December math goal in ALEKS.

A Book-A-Thon is designed to reinforce good reading habits while raising funds to support the Literacy Committee.
The Book-A-Thon will start on December 21st and end on January 12th.
We encourage students to get pledges from family and neighbors.
PRIZE LIST:
If you raise $10.00-Cookie from the cafeteria.
If you are the Top Grade Level $ Raiser-$10.00 Scholastic coupon for the book fair.
If you are the top $ Collector in the school-Kindle
NEED TO KNOW INFORMATION:
Step One: Gather pledges.
Sponsors may pledge an amount for each page (ex. $0.10 per page) OR a flat amount. (ex. $5.00)
Step Two: Read, read, read!
After the Book-a-Thon starts, you’ll need to read!
Record your reading minutes on the Reading Tracker.
Be sure to have your parent’s or teacher’s initial that you read during that time.
Step Three: Collect money.
Step Four: Turn in the envelope to Mrs. Edwards on Tuesday, January 14th.

For the month of December, our students have learned how to use collaboration skills to accomplish tasks more efficiently. This month, Bailey White is the student leader of the month! Bailey shows collaboration skills with her classmates by communicating with kindness and listening to others when they speak. Bailey always tries to be a team player and it shows.
